Looking to boost your iPad skills before the school year? These five tips and tricks will have you one step ahead in no time.
John Pearce's insight:

This post is basically an advertorial for the free online course over at Modern Lessons though the list of iPad Skills discussed are actually not the usual ones suggested in posts. As the course is free and as I could probably do with a bit of look at how others apply these skills, I might just have to check out the link. :)

The History 2.0 Classroom: Explain Everything X Google Drive = Awesome! | mrpbps iDevices | Scoop.it

"Using iPads in the classroom and particularly workflow solutions for iPads has slowly progressed from maddening to relatively seamless. While just last year an app for Google Drive didn't exist, it now directly interfaces quite nicely with a number of student creation apps and nearly everything can upload to Google Drive using the "open in" feature."

John Pearce's insight:

This is a great example of workflow and points to where future deevlopments may go. All the more reason to use Google Drive.

Mark Anderson's Blog » iPad 105 – Workflow | How to save, work with multiple apps and share | mrpbps iDevices | Scoop.it
One of the greatest positives of the iPad as a learning tool in education are the many different apps that allow students to create amazing pieces of work which demonstrate their learning. Not only that, but the productivity tools that go with their day to day activities are vast. Whittling down recently our core apps for students, you’ll see there are tools for taking notes, creating professional documents, presentations, making books, creating screencasts, the whole lot.

One of the negatives with the iPad though has been the problems associated with workflow. How do you get the work off? How do you, as a teacher, receive work from the students? How are you going to check their progress? How are you going to assess their work?

Some recent developments have really helped to alleviate many of these concerns.

iPad Workflow Solutions for Educators

iPad Workflow Solutions for Educators | mrpbps iDevices | Scoop.it

"A digital workflow for the iPad, or the process of getting student work to and from the device, has long been a subject of some consternation among those who use iPads in the classroom. Why? The reason is simple. Apple did not build the iPad for a school environment. It was designed for an individual. As such, it was designed to be managed by an individual, with little real thought about how that individual could interact with other users."

Layering Apps on an iPad

When I work with teachers who are using iPads in their classroom, I get them to audit their apps and to ask so what? questions of the apps.  I need for them to know the learning and formative assessment potential of each of their apps.  If the apps is unjustified busy work, it is scrapped.  I then introduce this concept I have developed called layering, where the best features of one app are used to create content that can be enhanced in another app.  I get the teachers to base the learning intention outputs around the workflow of several apps.
John Pearce's insight:

A neat post that explores one of the main differences between working on the iPad and laptops etc ie using multiple apps to develop creative products. It includes a movie demonstration of this process.
