Google Apps for iPad Users - Summit Resources

Google Apps for iPad Users - Summit Resources | mrpbps iDevices | Scoop.it
Lots of people were turning up at Google Summit workshops with an iPad, only to be disappointed that many things that work on a computer either don't work at all on an iPad, or work very differently.

Although they have many advantages, its useful to remember that an iPad is not the same as a conventional computer. Many of the things that one can do on a laptop are definitely not the same experience on an iPad. It can be a little frustrating!

Google tools have typically been designed to run in a web browser and aim to be device-agnostic, but that ideal does not always translate well into an iPad experience.  The best experience on an iPad is when you use purpose built apps, and with the right apps it is quite possible to live comfortably in a Google world on an iPad.
John Pearce's insight:

My friend and colleague Chris Betcher is an inveterate sharer. He's also a regular presenter at Google Summits and other events around the country and beyond. At his school the students use iPads within the classroom. This heady mix means that Chris writes from authentic personal knowledge and experience. In this post, (part of a much more extensive site focussed on things Google. If you're looking for tips on how to best use Google tools on your iPad then this post is a great summary.

Google Now Finally Comes to Google Search on iPad and iPhone | PadGadget

Google Now Finally Comes to Google Search on iPad and iPhone | PadGadget | mrpbps iDevices | Scoop.it
Google’s answer to Siri for Android devices has been a big hit for non-iOS users. The virtual personal assistant has been rumored to be making its way to the iPhone and iPad.
John Pearce's insight:

OK this looks interesting but is also slightly disquieting at the same time. At first blush Now could be useful in drawing together information about your day however it's the underlying awareness and aggregation of what might otherwise be sensitive information about yourself that has potential for mischief or worse. Ah well with every advance comes the potential for misadventure or worse. What do others think?

Setting Default Apps on the iPad with Google - Jonathan Wylie

Setting Default Apps on the iPad with Google - Jonathan Wylie | mrpbps iDevices | Scoop.it

"If, like me, you are a Google Apps user who loves to use their iPad, you may have longed for the ability to have your favorite Google services set as the default apps on your iPad. Well, you can, to a degree, and here’s how.

Today I saw a post on Google+ by Chris Betcher, a Google Certified Teacher and Trainer, that reminded me how to do just that. It’s simple really, and there is no need for workarounds or even jailbreaking your device, because Google has done all the hard work for you."

Google presents us with lots of possibilities for collaboration and integration in our work.  Having a connection between our iPad and our desktop computer is important.  This article may give you an idea of some of the possibilities.  We should all have a "cloud" storage space and google Drive is a good place to start, similar to Dropbox but with more advantages and possibilities.

John Pearce's insight:

At a quick glance this app looks really interesting. The interface is intuitive and it seems to just work. It will be interesting to check out more of the features though it may require more of my colleagues to become regular Hangout devotees.
