I’m absolutely delighted that this weekend that we at Mozilla have launched the first iteration of Webmaker badges. You can get started earning them right now by going to thimble.webmaker.org. More here: https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2012/11/10/webmaker-badges/

Webmaker badges, in part, are based upon the work I’m doing around Web Literacies...

Teach the Web

Teach the Web | mozillian 100% Open & Free Web! | Scoop.it

"Teach the Web has something for everyone who wants to get more closely involved with the Making and Learning Movements. #teachtheweb seeks to create an online space to connect, explore and make – and then transfer that energy into real life learning spaces.

In this 9-week course you’ll work with others on projects that hone your web teaching skills. Posts on the Topics and Tasks will be published weekly and experienced Webmaker Super Mentors are ready to give tips on tech and facilitation support. #teachtheweb"

This looks to be a very interesting and useful making activity. #teachtheweb already has introduced me to new tools for producing and publishing content and media for web resources that can be used for education and other areas.

The Flexible Web #responsivedesign

The Flexible Web #responsivedesign | mozillian 100% Open & Free Web! | Scoop.it

Web design isn’t what it used to be. Web design used to be a fixed process. Except for some browser quirks here and there, and for the regular lockdown of creativity of course, it was a fairly straightforward operation. It used to be the defining of a canvas and as long as we kept the design within the 960 horizontal pixels of a grid, everything would be safe and sound.

That was during the time when the web only lived on the desktop, behind the monitor of a computer. But as all of us know things have changed. Since then, we have deliberately taken the web out of the desktop and placed it in basically every screen we could imagine. We’ve put it in our hands, we’ve put it in our laps, we’ve put it in every space where we can find use for it.

Website designers need to think more like the end user and not so much as the almighty designer. I've seen many beautiful websites that such when it comes to a user navigating the site.
