Andrew Nuno's insight:

Christopher Nolan is one of the premier storytellers working in filmmaking today. With such accomplished works as "The Dark Knight" trilogy, Inception, and Memento under his belt, Nolan has established himself as one of the best film talents in the world. So, it comes as no surprise that the press is heavily surrounding the filming of his next film, Interstellar. The film is due out in November 2014. Here, you can see some photos from the set! Enjoy!!

USC study: Minorities still under-represented in popular films

USC study: Minorities still under-represented in popular films | Movies | Scoop.it
With this year's high-profile movies "The Butler," "42" and "12 Years a Slave" prominently featuring black actors, it may seem as though the multiplex is enjoying new levels of diversity.
Andrew Nuno's insight:

This is an interesting look at one of the biggest problems in cinema since day one: diversity. There are people like film director Spike Lee who say that minorities are misrepresented or even under-represented in cinema. This article is great as it tackles the issue using statistics and three strong films this year that feature  black main characters.

i like seeing the diversity in films. it gives a feel that we are all equal, which we all should be. granted we feel more comfortable with a character that we can relate with, usually with the same skin color but it is needed to allow others to share that ability.

Great cast! Great director! Why did that movie flop?
CNN
(CNN) -- On the surface, "The Counselor" looked promising. The film had a number of notable stars, including Brad Pitt, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Michael Fassbender.
Andrew Nuno's insight:

One of the biggest fears in Hollywood nowadays is the fear of a box office bomb. Unfortunately, nowadays flops don't just happen to films that completely stink. There could be films that have everything going for it, but either poor critic reviews shut it down or audiences just don't have much interest in the film. This article is great as it explores the problem while using relevant examples like The Lone Ranger, The Fifth Estate, and The Counselor.

I remember hearing this great quote, I forgot where, but it went something like this, 'a movie needs three things to make it great, a great story, a great cast and crew, and needs to be known. You must have all these things to make a movie a success.' This movie only had two out of the three and was missing a good script. Movies are hard to make and with the amount of them being make every so often one or two will fail, this just happen to be one of those unlucky ones.

10 Maniacally Mind-Twisting Movies For A Heady Halloween
Forbes
Psychological horror is a special flavor of twisted that leaves out, I'd say, about 90% of all “horror” movies.
Andrew Nuno's insight:

What I like about this article is both the quality of the movies included on this list, along with the relevance. Whether you are in the mood for a Halloween film or film in general, each of these films are one to catch!

Alfonso Cuaron: Master of Immersion « via @vincentLaforet

Alfonso Cuaron: Master of Immersion « via @vincentLaforet | Movies | Scoop.it

Narrowing my focus to the past 72 hours…. well, for the past 3 evenings, I’ve been as close to experiencing outer space as you or I will likely ever come, courtesy of director Alfonso Cuarón and his film "Gravity."

Andrew Nuno's insight:

One of the biggest runaway successes of the year is Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity". The film is about two astronauts who become lost in space after getting caught up in space debris. This article is from a fellow film director who lets it all out about why he loves the work of what Cuaron has done here. From the directing to the writing to the technical work, he describes in detail why Gravity is such an achievement not just for cinema this year, but for cinema in general.

Great story by Vincent Laforet on the movie "Gravity" which I've recently experienced. As Vincent says - go see it in a theater NOW - do not wait to see it on a small screen. You simply must must see this movie.

Mike Harrison's comment, November 5, 2013 12:36 AM
I saw this movie a while ago and was blown away by the story and how real the whole movie looked. This is one of my favorite movies of the year.

Why Warner Bros. Picked Ben Affleck To Play Batman - Business ...

Why Warner Bros. Picked Ben Affleck To Play Batman - Business ... | Movies | Scoop.it
It shouldn't come as a surprise Ben Affleck will be playing Batman in the "Man of Steel" sequel.
Andrew Nuno's insight:

One of the biggest outrages in recent memory was the selection of "Argo" director Ben Affleck. While a celebrated talent, many fans were dissapointed with the selection from a variety of reasons including the fact that he is too recognizable, he doesn't match the look of Bruce Wayne, or even that he is simply too old to portray the character. This article is relevant because it gives some reasoning behind Warner Bros.' motive for the selection.

At first, I was a little taken back by the studio's decision to cast Ben. I am just hoping that the studio saw something really good in what Ben has to offer as Batman.

Andrew Nuno's insight:

Considering that the return of the Star Wars franchise will be hot talk among moviegoers for the next two-ish years, it is always fascinating to get people's opinions on who they think should be casted in this continuation of Star Wars. Considering that some of these actors have worked with the film's director, J.J. Abhrams, beforehand makes this writer's predictions all the more credible. And to be honest, I would be completely fine seeing all of these actors or actresses onscreen in the next Star Wars adventure. Their careers have earned them a place.

I would love to see Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Wars! However he has been in so many fan-movies and shows lately. Star Trek, Sherlock, and now The Hobbit! Is he possibly the next Johnny Depp?
Andrew Nuno's comment, November 1, 2013 1:14 PM
Possibly, but it is a bit early to tell! Perhaps if he is to get casted in the next Star Wars film, this could give him the boost he needs to rise to the levels of Johnny Depp.
