Year-over-year motorhome registrations jumped 25.5% in March while sales for the first quarter increased 23.5%, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI). Thor Industries Inc. held the No. 1 spot in year-to-date motorhome registrations with a 25.9% market share followed by Winnebago Industries Inc. (17.4%), Forest River Inc.’s Coachmen RV division (13%) and Forest River (11.5%). In the Class A category, March sales climbed 10.8% compared with 2012 and were up 20.6% for the three months. Thor led the sector through March, posting a 21.4% market share, while Winnebago held a 21% share and Tiffin Motorhomes Inc. was No. 3 with an 18.6% share. Class C sales soared 43.4% for the month and 27.1% year-to-date. Thor led the category for the three months with a 31.2% market share, followed by Coachmen RV (21.6%), Forest River (16.8%) and Winnebago (13.1%). RV Awnings Recalled Legal Examiner Dometic USA has initiated a recall and replacement of its 9100 Power Awnings, Weatherpro Awnings and Motor Service Kits and all the affected power awning units. Apparently, if a step was missed in the installation of the power awnings, the motor can be damaged causing the awning to unfurl. If you have one of these awnings, please heed the recall and immediately have your awning checked. If you own any awning that is installed on your RV or trailer, please check it for stability and security as well. I previously posted a blog about awnings unfurling, coming off moving RVs and effectively becoming dangerous flying projectiles.

Just finished assembling one of these for my son's apartment. In the process, I realized that this sofa would be a fabulous replacement sofa/jack knife sleeper for a motorhome. The sofa arrives in pieces which makes it perfect for getting it into the coach to begin with. Make sure you separate all lf the parts before trying to take them inside the coach as the pack that includes the front and back frame and the springs is quite heavy. Once you cut through all the nylon straps that hold them together for shipping, the individual pieces are easy to pick up. Next, the front and back have inner spring inserts that cleverly slip inside of the generously padded surface cushion. Assembly is simple and straightforward and can be done by 1 adult up to a point and then a second person is needed to hold the back and the seat while a second person tightens the bolts. The result is a very comfortable, nice looking couch. The only challenge will be devising a method for securing the couch to the coach so that it will not slide around during travel. This can probably be accomplished by attaching some L-brackets to the base of the arms and then to the floor of the coach.
