Fabric as material and concept in art from Klimt to the present on view in Wolfsburg

Fabric as material and concept in art from Klimt to the present on view in Wolfsburg | Various Contents_Philosophy_Arts_Media&Culture | Scoop.it
WOLFSBURG.- Nothing, no material, no technique is as capable of touching our sensual and mental existence so universally as textiles, particularly at a time that is in danger of becoming ever less sensuous due to increasing virtualization. Textiles with their abundance of weaves and textures that evolved over the millennia are the ideal medium to fulfill this need for sensuality. The Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg again devotes itself to a central aspect of human life from the perspective of art in a historically far reaching, interdisciplinary multimedia exhibition that encompasses the most diverse cultures. After Interior/Exterior in 2008 and The Art of Deceleration in 2011, this exhibition represents a further step in the pursuit of modernism in the 21st century that the museum has been undertaking since 2006. This large-scale exhibition encompasses approximately circa 200 works by 80 artists as well as 60 further anonymous artists whose names have not been [...]

C-Lab Columbia Laboratory for Architectural Broadcasting | Various Contents_Philosophy_Arts_Media&Culture | Scoop.it
Giacomo Pala's insight:

"What I’m trying to do at Columbia is to maximize the notion of aesthetics, the intellectual discourse of aesthetics. I am interested in redefining the horrific and the grotesque. At SCI-Arc, I am trying to take to the extreme the notion of the autonomy of the form as a vehicle for the production of architecture. For example, how you assemble, how you put it together"

Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going? | Art Journal | Various Contents_Philosophy_Arts_Media&Culture | Scoop.it
Giacomo Pala's insight:
Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going? As they did for Gauguin, these questions orient us to matters not only of historicity, but also of personal, or in this case, disciplinary mythology. If art history were to paint such a manifesto picture, what would it look like? Which of our origins would we embrace? The Dean of SCI-Arc Eric Owen Moss interviews Hernan Diaz Alonso and Marcelo Spina, two members of his faculty, about the fluctuating relationship between radical architecture and the tools that give it shape
Giacomo Pala's insight:

No reason to assume you will build the same thing 20 years later. The tools are the means to start to think about new ways to challenge what the tool can and cannot do.
