Oaksterdam University was founded in November 2007. Richard Lee, the founder of Oaksterdam University, placed a provocative advertisement in the East Bay Express proclaiming “Cannabis Industry Now Hiring.” Lee had wanted to open a trade school for the cannabis industry ever since visiting the cannabis college in Amsterdam. Rather than emulate the college in Amsterdam where curriculum mainly surrounds horticulture, Lee decided to expand upon the idea and create a curriculum that focuses on the entire cannabis trade. Wanting to further legitimize the cannabis industry, Lee’s school quickly gained the attention of local, national, and even international media.

Marijuana Facts: Breaking Down the Myths | Scholastic: Nida.

Marijuana Facts: Breaking Down the Myths | Scholastic: Nida. | Most Wanted Seeds at Influx Genetics on tour. | Scoop.it

Marijuana use among teens had been on the decline since the mid-1990s—until now. According to the 2010 Monitoring the Future survey, teen marijuana use is no longer declining; in some cases, it is even increasing, particularly among eighth graders, the youngest group studied.

Why? One possibility is that some teens don’t see marijuana as harmful . . . or at least thatharmful. In fact, that same survey shows that in recent years, fewer teens think using marijuana regularly is risky at all.

Why are more teens so convinced that using marijuana isn’t harmful? The answer to this question may be right in front of you—on your music player, your cell phone, your computer, or your TV. In fact, the myth that marijuana is no big deal is nearly everywhere.

“The messages getting to young people are very mixed and probably contributing to the misperception that marijuana isn’t dangerous or harmful,” says Dr. Susan Weiss, a scientist at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). “We are concerned about this because we know that as teens’ perception of risk goes down, their use goes up.”

To make smart decisions about marijuana use and your health, you need to know essential facts about the effects of marijuana.

5 biggest myths about marijuana, debunked.

5 biggest myths about marijuana, debunked. | Most Wanted Seeds at Influx Genetics on tour. | Scoop.it
The more research is released, the more legalization seems like a no-brainer

Back in the 1930s, the arguments to criminalize cannabis were bizarre and openly racist. The anti-pot crusader Harry Anslinger made all sorts of over-the-top claims, such as, “Marihuana is a short cut to the insane asylum. Smoke marihuana cigarettes for a month and what was once your brain will be nothing but a storehouse of horrid specters.”

Nowadays more than 100 million Americans say they’ve smoke pot, millions use cannabis regularly to treat illnesses and it is as legal as alcohol in two U.S. states. However, it remains illegal under federal law largely due to scare tactics ingrained in our society, which date back even prior to Anslinger.

Today, pot legalization opponents try a little harder to sound reasonable, but their claims don’t do much better than Anslinger’s under scrutiny. Recent studies have picked apart the justifications for criminalizing marijuana. Here are five of the most popular arguments against cannabis legalization that are easily undermined by objective data.

1. Pot leads to crime. If alcohol prohibition taught us anything it’s that prohibition itself leads to crime, not what is prohibited. While cannabis has shaken the psychotic Reefer Madness reputation over the years, the association between weed and crime is still alive and well in certain realms of the media, which are happy to present data without appropriate statistical caveats.

As for the studies that carefully and objectively examine their data, they find no association between cannabis and crime. A recent study in the journal PLOS One found that in states that legalized medical marijuana between 1990 and 2006 the crime rate either remained the same or decreased.

MiamiHerald.com The Marijuana Legalization Tidal Wave is Coming — See This Map PolicyMic In South America, for instance, Uruguay's recent decision to not just decriminalize but officially legalize marijuana —

One might not expect a website called weedblog.eu to be particularly profound. However, in addition to posts about “the best weed you ever smoked” and “the latest cannabis discoveries that governments don’t want you to know,” the site recently posted a map that elegantly displays an ongoing, historic, and unprecedented sea change: the world's evolving consensus about the prohibition of marijuana (click the image to see the interactive map).

The map pins news stories from 44 countries (and one satirical piece about Iran), showing both the widespread nature of the changing consensus, and regional pushes to change legislation as individual countries escape the yolk of American influence (after all, marijuana prohibition was a mid-century project led by one country, and one man).

Why the DEA Chief Should Resign | Cannabis Culture.

Why the DEA Chief Should Resign | Cannabis Culture. | Most Wanted Seeds at Influx Genetics on tour. | Scoop.it

For months Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Administrator Michele Leonhart has openly rebuked the drug policy reform policies of Attorney General Eric Holder and President Obama with one embarrassing statement after another. Now she is picking a fight with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Y) and other members of Congress over hemp. Meanwhile, the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General has launched an investigation into multiple scandals plaguing the agency. It is clear that Leonhart lacks the ability to lead and should resign. Activists are using the Twitter hashtag #FireLeonhart.

The DEA created a political firestorm this week when it seized seeds bound for a Kentucky hemp research program that was approved by Congress. Even Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has weighed in, telling Politico last night, “It is an outrage that DEA is using finite taxpayer dollars to impound legal industrial hemp seeds.” The Kentucky Agriculture Department is suing the agency. The seizure is the latest misstep by the agency, which is being investigated by the Department of Justice for numerous scandals.

Earlier this month the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector Generallaunched investigations into numerous DEA scandals, including the massacre of civilians in Honduras, the use of NSA data to both spy on virtually all Americans and to systematically fabricate evidence, controversial uses of confidential informants, airline passenger searches, and sexual misconduct. DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart herself has been at the center of several scandals, including the House of Death scandal in which the DEA may have turned a blind eye to torture and murder; and the Andrew Chambers scandal, in which the DEA rehired a confidential informant with a history of lying.

Marijuana Myths & Facts. | Most Wanted Seeds at Influx Genetics on tour. | Scoop.it

Foreword

Before we start reviewing the Real Truth Behind the 10 Most Lied About Myths, I first want to share these Facts with you.

The information you will read here is probably not what you have heard from your friends. But these are the facts. Don’t decide to use marijuana or any drug until you know all the facts and can decide for yourself.

Marijuana has been around for a very long time. Marijuana seeds were found as early as 6000 B.C. in Chinese food,  but it wasn’t until the 1960’s that marijuana became more popular.

From that moment governments all over the world (especially America) did there very best to spread rumors and lies about marijuana, thus creating myths!

Ann Coulter Shows Her Lack of Humanity About "Potheads" Cannabis Culture.

Ann Coulter Shows Her Lack of Humanity About "Potheads" Cannabis Culture. | Most Wanted Seeds at Influx Genetics on tour. | Scoop.it

CANNABIS CULTURE - According to an interview last night with CNN's Piers Morgan, Ann Coulter's preferred country would be one where people smoke and work themselves to early deaths on tobacco. Not only do people "stay up all night working" hyped up on nicotine, they die young, saving Social Security costs.

In a contentious interview, Coulter also declared "alcohol is good for you" and said everyone should have a glass or two every day. She admitted that she's drank before going on TV, which Morgan said perhaps explained a lot.

Coulter pulled out the "people don't drink alcohol to get drunk" argument, to which Morgan correctly replied, "Yes, they do," and Coulter admitted "you might get a warm feeling" after drinking wine.

She then went with the "marijuana legalization is bad for commerce" argument, using as an example a lazy pool guy who was a "pothead," extrapolating from there to conclude that those who smoke pot can perform no useful tasks (likefounding Apple or Microsoft).

Morgan's argument that no one's ever died of a cannabis overdose didn't fare well with the death-loving Coulter, who claimed young people are having early heart attacks because they're potheads, but "at least they'll save me money if they just go ahead and die."

"How humane of you," was all Morgan could say.

Perhaps Coulter's extra angry because Bill Maher publicly said he'd never slept with her on HBO's Real Time last week. While interviewing Republican Marlee Matlin about her marriage to Democrat James Carville, Maher said he couldn't get serious about dating a Republican for moral reasons.

If ever someone needed to learn how to relax and smoke a joint, it's Ann Coulter. Maybe then she'd find her lost humanity.
