Keyboard shortcuts are the easiest way to do things faster, but with the wide variety of software we all use it's hard to remember all the different shortcuts. In turn, even though we all know shortcuts are useful, few of us bother using them.

Library Makers: a new project resource! | Library as Incubator Project | More TechBits | Scoop.it
librarykerri's insight:

2 awesome resources, all rolled up into one.

Library as Incubator Project - "The mission of the Library as Incubator Project is to promote and facilitate creative collaboration between libraries and artists of all types, and to advocate for libraries as incubators of the arts."  The site highlights tons of fascinating things being done in or related to libraries!

Library Makers - (as reviewed in this Library as Incubator post) "is somewhere between a how-to craft book and a web magazine – basically a solid inventory of craft and art projects that work well in a library – the materials are things that most library craft supply rooms have already, or are easily obtainable."

ALA LibraryLab - Google+ | More TechBits | Scoop.it

"About this community

Mission: To bring librarians and Boing Boing readers (aka, Happy Mutants) together to generate support for and raise interest in libraries via projects at local libraries.

Goals:

- Help find and propose content about libraries that could be posted to Boing Boing.

- Provide active ways for Happy Mutants to support and get involved with their local libraries (eg, toolkits, best practices, ideas for local projects).

- Create dynamic programming at library conferences that Library Boing Boingers can then take outside of the library community to promote libraries (eg, SxSW, local community events, etc.).

- Work together to help Happy Mutants advance our shared interests (eg, copyright reform, net neutrality, game culture, digital divide issues, open government, etc.).

- Coordinate an international community of librarians working with their own Happy Mutant groups."

Create Great Image Compositions and Photo Montages with Fotor | More TechBits | Scoop.it

Via Robin Good
Robin Good's curator insight, June 13, 1:35 PM

Fotor is a great web-based image editor that is particularly talented at creating photo-montages, image strips and boards, photo cards and other similar image compositions.

The beauty of it is that Fotor connects directly to your Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, Instagram photo accounts, giving you the opportunity to easily find, drag and position your ideal images on the canvas. You can also upload images from your computer and easily crop, rotate or resize it.

Fotor also allows to overlay and position any text messages on your final composition allowin you to create those effective "social flags" for your online fans.

Fotor saves in JPG or PNG format and can post or upload directly your compositions to anyone of your connected social media accounts.

My comment: Excellent image editor for creating image compositions and photo montages. Lots of features and options. Easy to use.

Free to use.

Toronto Library uses social media to keep people reading

Toronto Library uses social media to keep people reading | More TechBits | Scoop.it

It’s the typical morning commute. For many residents of the city of Toronto that means taking the TTC.  To pass the time, many choose to read, whether it’s a newspaper, a novel or an e-book on their iPad.

Just as many more libraries across Canada are turning to social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to spread the message of how important literacy is, so, too is the Toronto Public Library.

Coincidentally, Microsoft launched an Online Privacy Awareness Campaign yesterday which will help people learn how to better protect their online privacy. Two of the major ways discussed are actually quite easy to implement – turning on private browsing mode and enabling the Do Not Track feature in your browser."
