"Although at the very early stage, Google Street View is being used not only outside but also inside buildings. From several institutions and businesses that can benefit from using this advanced tool, bookstores and libraries are the ones that stand out – they offer the magic of being among the best of all friends: books. Being in such a place makes you want read something now. In this post I’d like to introduce you to great libraries, which are most probably not in your neighborhood, but you can visit them in seconds without leaving your chair. It’s the power of the virtual world delivered by Google Street View. No geographical restrictions apply in this case."
"Makerspaces, sometimes also referred to as hackerspaces, hackspaces, and fablabs are creative, DIY spaces where people can gather to create, invent, and learn. Here are some excellent resources for anyone thinking about setting up a makerspace in their organization." from iLibrarian

"About this community Mission: To bring librarians and Boing Boing readers (aka, Happy Mutants) together to generate support for and raise interest in libraries via projects at local libraries. Goals:
- Help find and propose content about libraries that could be posted to Boing Boing. - Provide active ways for Happy Mutants to support and get involved with their local libraries (eg, toolkits, best practices, ideas for local projects). - Create dynamic programming at library conferences that Library Boing Boingers can then take outside of the library community to promote libraries (eg, SxSW, local community events, etc.). - Work together to help Happy Mutants advance our shared interests (eg, copyright reform, net neutrality, game culture, digital divide issues, open government, etc.). - Coordinate an international community of librarians working with their own Happy Mutant groups."

It’s the typical morning commute. For many residents of the city of Toronto that means taking the TTC. To pass the time, many choose to read, whether it’s a newspaper, a novel or an e-book on their iPad. Just as many more libraries across Canada are turning to social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to spread the message of how important literacy is, so, too is the Toronto Public Library. -Tarah Bleier

"Yesterday Google was hit with a fine of $190,000 in Germany for illegally collecting personal data, emails, passwords, and photos from unprotected wifi networks via its Google Street View cars. Coincidentally, Microsoft launched an Online Privacy Awareness Campaign yesterday which will help people learn how to better protect their online privacy. Two of the major ways discussed are actually quite easy to implement – turning on private browsing mode and enabling the Do Not Track feature in your browser."

Today, we’re pleased to announce Pinterest Web Analytics, a first step towards doing just that. Web Analytics gives site owners insights into how people are interacting with pins that originate from their websites.
"Many people think 3-D printing could help spark a manufacturing renaissance in the U.S. — even President Obama highlighted this technology in his State of the Union address last week. But as 3-D printers and 3-D scanners get cheaper, this nascent industry could be roiled by battles over intellectual property."
