Too many managers globetrot without their thoughts budging an inch; make sure you are not one of them.
Jacqui Hogan's insight:

This reminded me of many years ago when I was installing software across Europe. One week, I visited 3 different countries - Paris (not the same as France!), Italy and Germany. Visting them all in one week made me much more conscious of the widely differing communication styles. Not to mention very stressed! I've been sensitive to difference every since.

Integrity-Accountability-Charisma- Status. What's Most Important? | Cocreative Management Snips | Scoop.it
Developing leadership character is a fine balancing act - and some critical values go along with the territory. When I started my executive MBA program in 2014, the Course Director said, in his welcome speech to the class, 'an MBA will teach you to ask questions'.  I groaned inwardly because I ask enough questions of myself - first and foremost - and of others; constantly challenging myself and others to lead with integrity (whatever the cost), and to only do things we can openly account for, i.e
Jacqui Hogan's insight:

The subject of Integrity is an interesting one. Whilst it means being honest, ethical and having a moral code. I think it should also include clarity - so everyone knows what your code is, and consistency in applying that code. Too many people claim to have a moral code but, in practice, apply it inconsistently.

Without Integrity, having Charisma or Status is an empty authority.

At long last. Let's hope this sets a trend and more organisations follow suit.

I would, however, caution against managing by objectives. I have seen it operate with disastrous results and it is absolutely useless when objectives become obviously out of reach. It is better by far to inspire self-worth that grows as people feel they are contributing to a worthwhile common purpose..

Brainstorming Does Not Work — Galleys — Medium

Brainstorming Does Not Work - Galleys - Medium
Why people who brainstorm are wasting their time.
Jacqui Hogan's insight:

I don't agree!

Well actually I do agree, but only if you take 'brainstorming' as it was originally designed i.e. group idea generation under the firm control of a 'non-judgmental' facilitator. So I agree that group brainstorming doesn't work!

Unfortunately, new techniques for idea generation which do not have these drawbacks, are shoved under the generic heading of 'brainstorming'. Techniques such as 'reversals', A2Z etc (which I use), where individual ideas are captured. They do require several more stages of evaluation where, again, it is group decisions about rejecting ideas that need to be avoided.
