Crowdfunding & Gamification: What's Next

Crowdfunding & Gamification: What's Next | JavaScript | Scoop.it

When the lit match of gamificaiton hits the exposed jet fuel of crowdfunding both will feed speed, scale and intelligence into the other. I've read the Forrester report that predicts 80% gamification failure by 2015 and have two thoughts.

1. 80% failure is about the normal Internet marketing "hit" rate.

2. That means 20% are going to win BIG, very big.

The combination of gamification and crowdfunding is more likely than not to be in that 20% winner category.

This is kind of like a ScoopIt for video curation on YouTube. More at www.Zeeik.com. Thanks for the heads from Robin Good!

Prof. Hankell's curator insight, December 2, 2013 8:33 AM
Robin Good's insight:

"Zeeik It" is a new bookmarklet from Zeeik, a video curation app, that allows you to easily collect and save into discrete collections all of the YouTube videos found on Twitter or on most any web page.

Once collected you can pick the ones you want and easily trim them before saving them into a curated video collection.

Zeeik video collections are a good way to create valuable content that can be embedded in any article or guide and that can be served according to multiple categories and criteria as you can see from this specific example:http://zeeik.com/zeeik/-21828800  ;

(click "Cool Colors" or "Warm Colors").

You can find the new Zeeik It bookmarklet on the top right of the Zeeik home page here: http://zeeik.com/ ;

Free to use.

This is a great article to introduce you to the Unicorn of Death. The UoD gets attention.

The UoD has nothing to do with the "Top 15 Most Used Cliche Images in Web Design", but if I used any of the images highlighted in the article you'd skip right past this post.

In good design there has to be something of value to put your attention in a chokehold, otherwise it's cheap decoration. Design cliché's are just that.

You can thank the folks who set the standards at microstock sites like iStock, Dreamstime et,al.

From experience, I've had images rejected because they were deemed "..not stock-worthy..." Considering the images that are stock-worthy, that's not such a bad thing.

Functional JavaScript in action

Recently came across a blog post about a JavaScript function to convert state names to abbreviations (or vice versa) and realized that it's an excellent topic to present the power that can be had from functional programming in JavaScript.

The premise of the article is that the author needed a function that when given a state name or abbreviation would return the opposite. The author went about it by first finding a PHP function that does the same, then simply converted the code over to JavaScript. While this method surely works for the purpose needed, it also illustrates how powerful functional programming techniques could be used instead which will produce the same result, but also have some reusable code.

Hans's curator insight, December 2, 2013 11:50 AM

UX design for me is half planning, half crafting - and if the plan is bad the design will suffer. The road to success usually includes, at some point: sales, strategy, research, prototyping, user testing and implementation. All aspects of the design process must therefore be considered, methods must be selected and deliverables must be actionable in order to generate desired outcome. We all know that no chain is stronger than its weakest link, which also applies to UX - no design process is stronger than its weakest moment. Consequently it's our responsability as UX:ers to make sure the chain is unbroken.

The Ecosystem Behind the Product or Service

The Ecosystem Behind the Product or Service | JavaScript | Scoop.it

Every product or service comes in to this world with an abundance of actors, like the relations they have and the conditions they interact within. This ecosystem is a self-sufficient set of elements which are intricately interconnected. These elements can exist by themselves, and yet simultaneously be part of a larger ecosystem, like a tree in the forest. However, our ecosystems are populated with people, which can easily result in chaotic or poorly organized systems plagued by unnecessary bureaucracy.
