Google's 'Ingress' and 'Endgame': What's next?

Google's 'Ingress' and 'Endgame': What's next? | Moore Interaction | Scoop.it
They were just two of the approximately 2,000 attendees who descended upon downtown Pasadena on Saturday for an “Ingress” meet-up. “Ingress” is a game-meets-social-experiment from Google, one in which players battle for the virtual control of real-world spaces such as a church, a mural or a Metro stop. A mobile phone becomes a sort of interactive game board, pinpointing a players’ real-world location and overlaying it with a game of alien warfare.
Nicky Moore's insight:

“Ingress” encourages players to put one foot in front of the other and use the app to view a heightened version of reality, one in which mind-controlling alien matter is seeping into the planet via portals. Earth, using Google Maps technology, has become a battleground between optimists, who think the aliens have good intentions, and pessimists, who want to fight back."

The Meerkat Minefield: Legal Issues With Live-Streaming Apps

The Meerkat Minefield: Legal Issues With Live-Streaming Apps | Moore Interaction | Scoop.it
The Meerkat Minefield: Legal Issues With Live-Streaming Apps
Nicky Moore's insight:

"Public performance rights come into play here. Meerkat would need to acquire the proper licenses from ASCAP, BMI and SESAC to cover streams of live performances at concerts. The company may also violate record labels' performance rights if a Meerkat user streamed a sound recording "like a DJ's pre-recorded tracks at an EDM show," says Bill Hochberg, an entertainment attorney in Los Angeles. More than music can be affected. Television broadcast rights could also easily be infringed. A live stream could circumvent NFL blackout rules that prevent a telecast from airing in certain areas, for example"

Myspace – the hot social media website of 2003 – is back. But you won’t find Myspace Tom popping up as your default first friend any more – he’s too busy posting pics on Instagram

Google Brings Ad Targeting from the Web to TV

Google Brings Ad Targeting from the Web to TV | Moore Interaction | Scoop.it
Google is taking its data-driven advertising approach to the more traditional world of television — in Kansas City, at least.
Nicky Moore's insight:

On the Internet, Google collects a lot of information on users, from Google searches, logged-in sessions of its Chrome web browser, Gmail, YouTube and Maps. It also tracks which websites many people visit, even when they’re not logged into one of its services.

From all this activity, the company gets anonymous information that gives it clues on people’s age, gender, income, location and interests and uses that to show more relevant ads online. That lets Google charge a premium for those ads because it can commit to a marketer that only the right sliver of the online audience will see the messages. Now Google wants to repeat that feat in TV advertising, a system still largely based on blunt demographic categories like age and gender.

HBO To Netflix: Bring It On

HBO To Netflix: Bring It On | Moore Interaction | Scoop.it
On a frigid winter Friday in Manhattan’s MediaGulch, HBO CEO Richard Plepler glides through the doors of a power-lunch spot called the Lambs Club. Plepler, the kind of natty dresser who believes that real men would never be caught dead without a pocket square, sports a tweed blazer over a baby blue cashmere sweater that perfectly accents his eyes. He floats across the marble floor, slips into his regular booth in the corner—a spacious, red leather cove—and slings one arm across the top of the banquette.

Netflix announces Australian pricing and content after Reddit leak

Netflix announces Australian pricing and content after Reddit leak | Moore Interaction | Scoop.it

[Netflix] has been smart in its move to the land Down Under by looking the other way with regards to Australians using VPN workarounds to access the U.S. version, therefore creating mass hype for a product before a local edition was even close to launch. Now, in another smart marketing ploy, Netflix Australia has undercut all its local competition in price for its standard subscription.
