How the course was adapted for delivery by Australia's leading university is discussed. Tips on making Moodle courses acceptable to professional accreditation authorities and education standards bodies are presented.

Dr. Doris Molero. Dr. Doris Molero, aka Pionia Destiny is an EFL Professor from Rafael Belloso Chacin University (URBE) in Maracaibo, Venezuela. She is a doctor in Sciences of Education specializing in curriculum and instruction. Her doctoral research was based on the use of Web 2.0 tools as multiliterate agents in the EFL Class at university level. She holds a master degree on Educational Informatics (2002) and graduated from Modern Language School at Universidad del Zulia (1991). She has taught English as a foreign language to high school and adult learners for 21 years. She has also role played in medieval sims since 2008. Right now, she's conducting an ethnographic study on Role play in medieval sims and how they can be used in the learning of a new a new language. Proud Webhead since 2002. On jul 2010, Participated in an bilingual project with Professor Amy Fullerton a.k.a Katarina Camino and her students from USF called URBE-USF Intercambios.

 

New Technologies have changed the way we learn and socialize with each other. The web greatly facilitates the access to data and information but also generates some difficulties on finding what it could be or not of use for our inquiring. Information has stopped from being written and asynchronous to become visual and synchronous. Contents have stopped from being lineal and authored to become fragmented and social. Users have sopped being consumers of contents to become creators of contents. As a result, the web is complex, dynamic and in constantevolution. Adapting to it, requires understanding its functioning mechanism and knowing how to use the resources in it efficiently. In this sense, this course offers its participants the literacies needed to adapt to the new environments efficiently.

 

Description of the presentation:

"The cry of crisis in education sounds like a bad cliche. Its been made so often one feels like the shepherd boy who cried wolf once too often but our situation is dire unless we respond with curiosity, enthusiasm, and imagination. Fortunately we are good at that!

Gutenberg's printing press caused a paradigm shift in education and society in the 15th century by making information available to the masses. The Roman Catholic church failed to recognize the significance of the printing press and lost its dominance over Europe. Our institutions find themselves in the same situation today.

We are facing a digital tsunami unless we learn to use the Internet and Web 2.0 applications to our best advantage. We need to transform our educational system to preserve it. There is much to gain but change is so easy to resist."

The book offers a menu of Web 2.0 teaching strategies to consider when planning your courses.

As a non-profit, we provide free professional development workshops to educators around the world. The educators who are involved in IT4ALL do everything on a voluntary basis without pay. We also organize free online conferences twice a year called Connecting Online (CO09-CO12) and Moodlemoots. Both conferences relate to integrating technology.

 

We would like to invite you to the first free MoodleMoot Virtual Conference (MMVC11) for 2011. The MoodleMoot will take place from August 17-21 online via WiZiQ Virtual Classroom. The presentations will be conducted in both English and Spanish. The topic tracks for MMVC11 are: Moodle for instruction and learning for blended and fully online courses, teaching with Moodle in unique ways, online facilitation using Moodle, Moodle tips, Moodle communities of learning, research studies and case studies on teaching with Moodle, Moodle innovations and developments, best practices with Moodle, case studies, innovations with Moodle, Mahara, Blended & Blended Online Learning, Mobile Learning, Action Research Projects, Reflective Practice, E-portfolios, New and Innovative Software, and integration of technology into the curriculum. Each presentation will be 40 - 60 minutes long with 15 min for questions and answers.

 

You are invited to join each of the events (public google docs) http://tinyurl.com/3l29sh5 by clicking on the link provided for each session so you can get email notification reminders a few hours before they start as well as the recordings. Please make sure you set your time zone according to your location.
