Collapsed Topics for Moodle 2.4.1 released

I've updated Collapsed Topics for Moodle 2.4.1, available from https://moodle.org/plugins/pluginversion.php?id=2149

This is a substantial update incorporating the new features of:

+ Custom capabilities 'format/topcoll:changelayout', 'format/topcoll:changecolour', 'format/topcoll:changetogglealignment' and 'format/topcoll:changetoggleiconset' to editing teachers and managers such that site administrators can choose to disable functionality through roles if they wish.

+ Icon sets where you can choose what set of control icons are appropriate on a per course basis. And choose if 'hover' functionality is applied.

+ Moved all 'tcconfig.php' default functionalty to 'Site Administration -> Plugins -> Course formats -> Collapsed Topics' so that defaults can be changed by the administrator from within Moodle without resorting to code changes.

This should give you more choice and reduce (if not eliminate) the requirement to change code on the server for your particular configuration.

PoodLL Pairwork (for early adopters)

PoodLL Pairwork (for early adopters) | Moodlicious | Scoop.it

PoodLL pairwork is the heart and soul of PoodLL really. And it is crazy that I have not properly released it in PoodLL 2. It seemed a low priority, because so few people told me that they used it. But in the PoodLL survey I put out last year, it was the most wanted feature . That surprised me. And a number of people have approached me directly about it recently, so I am putting this information out now. I have not finished pairwork, because I keep getting other jobs to do. So for now PoodLL pairwork is really for those people that can handle a little clunkiness, and the odd missing feature. Note also that at this stage it would probably not be feasible to use PoodLL pairwork to connect remote students.

Moodle 2.4 Beta performance test – comparison with Moodle 2.3

Moodle 2.4 Beta performance test – comparison with Moodle 2.3 | Moodlicious | Scoop.it
We’re still a far cry from the lean-mean Moodle 1.9 but it is great to see that Moodle HQ have managed to keep adding features whilst reducing Moodle’s footprint on hardware. One cannot compare Moodle 2.x with Moodle 1.9.x – there have been too many features added, improvements made for it to be a fair comparison. Moodle relies heavily on calls to the database so the less calls, the better. With a 37% improvement, this alone should prompt you to update to Moodle 2.4 when it comes out.

Whilst this is not a perfect representation of what real life usage of your Moodle installation would be like, it will still give you a very good idea of whether your system is good enough to run Moodle for your expected number of users.
