Top Moodle Plugins you Should Get to Know - Super Moodle

Top Moodle Plugins you Should Get to Know - Super Moodle | Moodlicious | Scoop.it

Moodle is a wildly, wildly popular LMS, and for obvious reasons. Offering the largest set of diverse features compared to other very task oriented and niche designs, Moodle brings an easily customized and diverse learning experience that allows the viewing of training in a whole new light. But, one of the big sellers of this LMS over other pretty equally competent solutions is the availability of Moodle plugins.

Moodle being open source, and with this readily developed plugin base as well, kind of pulls a Salesforce and offers theoretically boundless features. While there isn’t quite the slick App Exchange sort of channel here, Moodle plugins are quite extensive.

Setting up a LTI connection for content in moodle

Setting up a LTI connection for content in moodle | Moodlicious | Scoop.it

I downloaded some course shells from a new K12 vendor today, Middlebury interactive.  After downloading a zip file for the content, I restored the course without any issue.  The first time I attempted to load content in the course, I got this message.

Oauth Error - Invalid Oauth credentials. Please contact your administrator.

I contacted the vendor and she informed me about LTI - which is the / a method that moodle uses when delivering content.  Our moodle server now has a defined LTI connection to the server where I downloaded the course shells.  I am not sure how often moodle will use this connection.  But once the connection was created, the course content loaded right up.

Perry found vulnerabilities in Moodle, vTiger CRM, Zabbix, Openbravo ERP, ISPConfig, OpenMediaVault, and NAS4Free. He developed exploits and reported his findings to the projects concerned; but at this time, only two have been fixed. The Moodle vulnerability disclosure timeline is typical: vulnerability discovered early August; disclosed to vendor late August; publicly disclosed (unfixed) late October. PoodLL now working with Moodle 2.6

PoodLL is a series of plugins for Moodle, the learning management system. It adds to Moodle, features such as audio and video recording and components like stopwatches and flashcards. Check out the demo site to see it in action, or look at some screencasts or screenshots . It is all designed to be used in language learning classes, but there are lots of people using it different ways.

Patric Lougheed's insight:

Just noticed Poodll is now available for 2.6!

-internal changes for Moodle 2.6 compatibility. Nothing you would notice
-added backimage support for literallycanvas and drawingboard
-added autosave support for whiteboards
-lots of changes related to the new PoodLL Anywhere mod. Some of these are on the recorders. Different RTMP status showing, and some other UI changes
-added support for static compiled FFMPEG. Just drop it into the PoodLL filter folder and it will use it if PoodLL filter settings tell it to.

Using Moodle with Young Pupils and Pupils with Poor Literacy Skills

Moodle is an incredibly versatile virtual learning environment and is widely used in secondary and further education.  Moodle is also a popular virtual learning environment in primary schools, with children as young as four or five years old using it.  Naturally Moodle is going to be used differently with younger pupils or those with poor literacy skills.

Courses will need to be visual and interactive so that it engages your pupils and encourages them to learn outside of the classroom.  Rather than having a lot of text you should try to use audio or video for instructions.  Photographs taken in the classroom are a great visual aid and can be used to lead a discussion at home as to what the pupil did in school today.  This can help a pupil practice their speaking and listening skills and improve their ability to recall an event.  There is a great feature of Moodle called a ‘Label’, which will help you to create an accessible and interactive course for your pupils.

New data available for higher education LMS market

New data available for higher education LMS market | Moodlicious | Scoop.it
Despite much talk about the demise of the LMS market, the end is nowhere in sight. Unlike many of the newer learning platform concepts (e.g. MOOCs, free platforms, unbundled learning platforms), the LMS market has an established business model and real revenues. Just today came news of an investment analysis report predicting that total LMS market (higher ed, corporate training, K-12) would triple in revenue by 2018, moving from $2.6B to $7.8B. The LMS ain’t sexy, but it’s still important.
