The Moodle Research Conference (MRC) is an annual international event dedicated to research and development (R&D) in learning and teaching carried out with Moodle. The MRC provides an opportunity for researchers, faculty/teachers, technologists, and other experts who either conduct research on the impact of using Moodle on student learning or develop tools increasing capacity to conduct research on Moodle use. Attendees share experiences and exchange research achievements and innovative developments. The aim of the conference is not to promote Moodle, but to bring together the community using Moodle to provide evidence about learning.

Moodle and LTI

Moodle and LTI | Moodlicious | Scoop.it

LTI is acroynm for (learning tool interactive) - yes, very vague, which means lots of options or LTI services that you can utilize.

On a conceptual level, moodle can act as either;

A LTI provider - where your moodle instance is serving up LTI services
A LTI consumer - where your moodle instance is consuming from another server, its content.

LTI 2.0 Support coming to Moodle?

LTI 2.0 Support coming to Moodle? | Moodlicious | Scoop.it
Moodle’s External Link resource is one of the most flexible in the educator’s/course creator’s tool belt. To date we’ve been using IMS Global’s LTI 1.1 standard to provide access from Moodle to an assortment of 3rd party tools(or even other Moodle sites). The value is an uncomplicated SSO system that provides the minimum amount of data required to allow students to work on a 3rd party system to interact, socialize, or even take a test.

How to drive moodle like a cadillac and not a chevy...

I was observing a course the other day and noticing how it was put together, looked at what it was *doing.  My observation was like this:

"This course is kinda lame.  It has good content, but its lame.  It doesn't engage the student much.    Courses were like read this, read that, post in the forum read more and more and post again to a forum."

Answer this question.  How could this course be better?

A Quick Look at Piwik Analytics for Moodle

A Quick Look at Piwik Analytics for Moodle | Moodlicious | Scoop.it

Two years ago we built and released a Google Analytics feature for Moodle which offered some robust reporting for Moodle – beyond the standard url logging it logged the breadcrumb from Moodle – see here for details. This was released as a plugin on the Moodle plugin directory.

David Bezemer of UP Learning took this concept/plugin and then expanded it to included Piwik an open source analytics system. The plugin is also available in the plugin directory.

Using this plugin requires you to install your own copy of Piwik separately, which you can use for all your websites. So I used it for the Moodlemoot Edinburgh this year, and below include some of the reports that were possible to generate from it.

Heartbleed OpenSSL Vulnerability

As you may or may not be already aware, a significant security vulnerability in OpenSSL has recently been found.

This vulnerability was discovered within the OpenSSL cryptographic software library, a global standard used by most web servers, and is not related to Moodle software.

This vulnerability allows exploitation of the heartbeat mechanism within TLS in order to read 64k of addressable server memory at one time, potentially allowing the leakage of sensitive information, including SSL private keys, usernames, passwords, and other details not normally accessible over encrypted SSL communication channels.

The vulnerability, introduced in December 2011, affects OpenSSL versions 1.0.1 through 1.0.1f, covering a significant portion of SSL websites across the world.

I can confirm that like many other sites, Moodle.org was vulnerable to this issue.
