“Moodle is more than a course or learning management system. Moodle is a great way for teachers to connect with their students and colleagues and learn. Learning on Moodle provides both teachers and students with a learning/teaching enviornment. Moodle for Teachers (M4T) will guide you on how to use Moodle for instruction and learning.”

Moodle for Teacher (M4T) Workshops April 2012

Spring is a great time to follow old and new dreams. Mine has always been to teach online. Teaching online is a great way to make extra money or earn a living by creating your very own online courses. Teaching online is full of AHA moments as teachers get to teach their way without having the school force them to teach to the test. Teaching online engages both the teacher and student. What better way to teach and learn via Moodle. Moodle is a free course and learning management system (CMS & LMS) that allows teachers to cater to students' individual needs. Learn how to Moodle by joining Moodle for Teachers workshops available now: https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=19D9tue67AzIb2D-Yp4XFPU3BoKNT-tpydzE-n04lgHQ

Twitter Hacker on the Loose!
Twitter Hacker on the Loose! | Moodle for Teachers (M4T) | Scoop.it

FYI, there's a hacker with a great spam if you fall for it, which I did. It comes from your twitter contacts and it says someone is saying bad things about you. A link follows the message. If you click on the link, your twitter account is hacked and it begins to send the spam. I changed my password so I'm out of the loop, but the game is still on so don't click on the link if you get the message from someone else. So, if you are curious and click on the link, people will be saying bad things about you.

Let's make our online presence a good one by warning each other so we do not fall into the traps that are being developed as I write this. Let your friends know about this hacker so that we can have a safe online exchange.

Sharing for Learning
Sharing for Learning | Moodle for Teachers (M4T) | Scoop.it

Learning to share is a very important aspect of learning. Posting your reflections for everyone to learn from during a workshop is very important. Connecting with the facilitators to add your feedback limits the scope and lessons learned to 1 or 2 people. If you missed a few sessions of a class and wish to continue collaborating, which I encourage everyone to do, please add your thoughts on a blog and share it with the world. This way you don't limit your audience and everyone benefits. However, don't forget to share the link with the class participants so they can learn and respond.

Integrating Technology Hosting and Consulting Services

Dariem Garces and Dr. Nellie Deutsch have a hosting company called Integrating Technology, hosting and consulating services (ITHCS). We install or help install for our Moodle for Teacher administrator workshop participants, support, and provide consultation services for any teacher for $120 a year.

ITHCS is the only organization that provides unlimited number of email notifications. Shared hosting and most hosting companies do not allow unlimited number of email notifications as they crash their servers. I was kicked out of a few hosting companies for having too many email notifications. It's a Moodle feature that causes problems. We provide consultation on Moodle to a few universities around the world and to teachers who want to use Moodle.

Don't be discouraged if you hosting company doesn't support your Moodle webstie. Similar things happened to me when I first started my Moodle in 2004. I was lucky to have met Dariem who helped me. Dariem and I worked on the WebQuest Module for Moodle. Dariem is the developer of the Module. I used to create WebQuests so we teamed up. He was doing his Masters in computer science and I had begun my doc program at the Univeristy of Phoenix.

Moodle for Teachers (M4T) online workshop will take place on a Moodle website called Integrating Technology for Active Lifelong Learning (IT4ALL). The aim of the M4T workshop is to provide participants, who have never used Moodle or who would like to enrich their previous Moodle experiences, with the knowledge and skills to navigate a Moodle course, access resources and activities from a student perspective, and practice the same resources and activities in the team and class sandboxes as teachers. The participants will collaborate as they develop a lesson on the Moodle. Participants who complete all the activities of the workshop will receive a certificate of completion.

The workshop will include both asynchronous (not dependent on time) and synchronous (time dependent) learning environments. The asynchronous will be conducted on the Moodle and the synchronous learning environment will be conducted on WizIQ through the M4T workshop. Participants will watch tutorials, participate in discussions, and practice in individual and in the class sandbox areas. The participants will also use Google docs for support (24/7) and collaborative work (planning and presenting the lesson).

Learning to Learn and Teach From You!!!
Learning to Learn and Teach From You!!! | Moodle for Teachers (M4T) | Scoop.it

There are many resources available online on how to teach online and face-to-face. I would try and write down "my needs as an online and/or face-to-face learner". What worked for me? What didn't work for me? I believe we should listen to our learners. I would ask my students to tell me how I can serve them best as learners. Learning from other online teachers may serve those teachers and their students, but will it apply to mine? I would try to create a needs assessment survey before each online and/or face-to-face class to learn about the students. I would allow for flexibility and would not be afraid to change the course layout by adding or removing items that do not serve my students' learning needs. Don't be afraid to apply your ideas to teaching. Your ideas are just as good as the resources you read about online. So, use and share your teaching/learning ideas by publishing them online in a blog/wiki or right here on Scoopit.
