Moodle Tips: Suspension of students rather than full unenrolment

Moodle Tips: Suspension of students rather than full unenrolment | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

On our training events, we are regularly asked about removing students once they have completed a course. This can be for a variety of reasons but often it is simply a case of wanting to only display current learners in the grade book and other grade data areas (e.g. quiz attempts table, SCORM attempts table, etc.) rather than all enrolled learners, as these areas can become unwieldy with pages of data relating to learners who finished the course the previous year.

This scenario is not quite as straight-forward as it may first appear. As the grade data areas always show learners who are enrolled in the course, unenrolling them from the course will also remove them from the grade data areas. This process can be achieved automatically by using the enrolment duration in the enrolment method which would unenrol learners after a certain time in the course.

While it is preferable that all learners are not displayed in the gradebook, the drawback to unenrolling the learners is that typically their data is not retained either, and teachers are therefore unable to look back at the grades for unenrolled learners. The solution here is to suspend course learners rather than unenrolling them; this will prevent course access to those learners whilst still retaining the ability for teachers to filter their grade results in the gradebook for their own analysis.

Working With Moodle Course Files- Tips to Know

Working With Moodle Course Files- Tips to Know | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

There has been an alteration in the Moodle course files over the recent years. This change in the file system is among the most beneficial as you can now save files in repositories. The file repositories are where files are stored and managed, which will exist either outside or inside Moodle.

The access to these locations will range in accordance with the admin preferences or settings of every site. The alterations in the File Repository system have the ability to simplify the management of files that are used in Moodle courses. You can now enjoy the capability to distribute the files within several courses. You can also activate and promote updates that will be indicated in each pseudonym location.

Moodle Rubric Grading - Complete Guide - Super Moodle

Moodle Rubric Grading - Complete Guide - Super Moodle | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

The Moodle rubric, a system built for criteria-based assessment, explicitly describes the performance expectation for an assignment. The rubrics have several criteria and each criterion has several descriptive levels provided. A rubric identifies several attributes. They include descriptions, performance levels and the criteria.

Criteria take into account the performance aspects that an instructor intends to assess. The description attribute denotes the desired characteristics associated with a criterion. The performance level is a rating scale in rubric used to identify the level of mastery a student has within a given criteria. Each descriptive level has a numerical grade and an instructor can choose the level that answers a given criterion in the best way possible.

Here is a quick tutorial to teach you how to insert questions into eduCanon. You will need to have a video in mind.
Some additional feature in eduCanon:

* You can crop videos

* You can group videos together for lessons

* You can monitor student progress

Instead of putting on a video and relaxing, why not put in a quiz or some questions.......
Kelly Christopherson's curator insight, August 20, 11:37 AM

I like the idea of being able to insert questions and comments into videos that will be used with students, either large group or individual. It provides for formative quick checks to ensure students are on track and can generate discussions amongst groups or with the whole class. I also think that, giving students this option, they could create reactions by asking questions and direct their own learning through adding questions or comments to what they are viewing.
