If you want to take notes by hand but also want to keep the notes digitally, be warned, you may have limited success with OCR software. One Note, my favourite piece of Microsoft software, seems to be the best option to creating digitised, handwritten notes. Kinda defeats the purpose of toting that Moleskin around though.

[Slideshare] Future of Learning and Technology 2020: Preparing for change

The education landscape of 2020 will be characterized by the blurring of boundaries. Learning anywhere and anytime will be commonplace in many different ways based on the ubiquitous and innovative use of technology. Our organizations face a duality of change—conceptual and technological—regarding the practices of education and learning. The practices of teaching, presenting and learning will undergo fundamental change as it responds to global, social, political, technological and of course, learning research trends. Will your organization be ready and prepared to take advantage of these seismic changes to education, learning and technology?

The Evolution of Learning Technologies

Human beings have always been seekers of knowledge. The minute we discover something new, we want to share it with others and move onto the next achievement. Since the beginning of recorded history (and probably before) we have always strived to discover the mysteries of the planet, of Earth and of ourselves. How has learning evolved over the course of human history and what might the future hold for us?

Putting together collections of YouTube videos can be a good way to provide students with review material related to units of study in your classroom. The easiest way to do this is to create YouTube playlists that you then embed into the sidebar of your classroom blog. The video embedded below shows you how to create a YouTube playlist.

Writing still dominates in schools. Our exams are handwritten and many students are still encouraged to handwrite notes. There are some benefits to handwriting. It allows for thinking time which can assist in clearer writing and it gives students the space to be more creative as it slows down the process. While it is crucial to be computer literate a blended approach to writing must be adopted by schools in order to allow students the benefits of both approaches.

A tablet computer, where students can handwrite, are a good option for note taking too, but less useful for writing essays and longer texts.

Education Reform: Pedagogy First, Technology Second

Education Reform: Pedagogy First, Technology Second | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

"Pedagogy is the driver, technology the accelerator.” This popular thought has been making the rounds on social media, instilling the importance of “pedagogy first, technology second.” This kind of thinking speaks volumes to educators for many reasons. Technology is often branded ‘disruptive’, a term justly despised by many. After all, what educator wants disruption? By placing the emphasis on ‘disruptive’ technology, over pedagogy, we’re making the wrong argument for education reform. For an educator, changing pedagogical method is not as easy as many would like to believe. Changing method with ‘disruptive’ technology? Forget about it. What we should be looking at is rather the pedagogy behind the technology… the purpose behind the tools."
