Treize scénarios d’activités de cours avec Moodle 2 - Centre NTE / Université de Fribourg | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

Pour chaque scénario, nous décrivons d’abord les étapes de sa mise en œuvre avec des exemples. Ensuite, nous montrons pas à pas comment créer, paramétrer et utiliser les outils nécessaires dans un espace de cours Moodle2.

Il est important de savoir manipuler la plateforme Moodle 2 si votre institution propose ce LMS (Learning Management System) et si vous voulez l’utiliser en support à votre enseignement. Heureusement il existe bon nombre de ressources, imprimées et en ligne, pour aider à manipuler Moodle2 (nous en proposons une sélection au chapitre « Manipulations de base »). Mais cela ne suffit pas car un LMS ne remplace pas (heureusement) un(e) enseignant(e). Ce n’est qu’en mettant cet outil au service d’une intention pédagogique qu’il devient utile.

The Moodle rubric, a system built for criteria-based assessment, explicitly describes the performance expectation for an assignment. The rubrics have several criteria and each criterion has several descriptive levels provided. A rubric identifies several attributes. They include descriptions, performance levels and the criteria.

Criteria take into account the performance aspects that an instructor intends to assess. The description attribute denotes the desired characteristics associated with a criterion. The performance level is a rating scale in rubric used to identify the level of mastery a student has within a given criteria. Each descriptive level has a numerical grade and an instructor can choose the level that answers a given criterion in the best way possible.

Moodle allows teachers and students to use a streamlined, simple and efficient interface. It is a platform that allows education to move online. With the influx of students preferring to work online, and the addition of online apps such as Turnitin and Google Docs, Moodle is a valuable program to use.

However, teachers and students alike are often still reluctant to use it. This can be due to a host of reasons – whether they are intimidated by the software, refuse to use technology no matter how useful it may be, or simply because it is an unfamiliar program that comes with a learning curve.

Despite these reasons, Moodle is a relatively easy program to use and familiarize yourself with. It is a program for those who are unfamiliar with technology or have a difficult time grasping new concepts. The learning curve is not steep and can be learned quickly. Once users become comfortable with the interface, Moodle proves to be a worthwhile program. If you are not convinced, here are some reasons below to persuade you to consider using the program.

Moodle vs Google Classroom

I have been using Moodle for more than 6 years and have been using Google Classroom in seven of my classes since the start of 2015. Classroom has a great user interface and with Google behind it, it can only get better. However, I did get a distinct impression that Google did not try to learn from Moodle and chose to instead find out the issues the hard way. A lot of the problems I will be mentioning are well-documented and publicly accessible issues (and solutions) that Moodle had to over come. Google chose instead of reinvent the wheel. They are also less transparent (a lot less) on how and when issues will be fixed. Hopefully that will change in the future.

 

Here are what I think could still be improved in Classroom. They are the reasons why Moodle is still my preferred LMS currently. Note that Classroom gets updated all the time and some of what I say here may already be out of date.

Moodle is a great LMS.  One the strengths of the platform is the rich set of resources available to online teachers. The Moodle Rubric system is a valuable assessment tool that will help your students understand the target... and hit it.
