Free SCORM eLearning Authoring for Diagrams and Picture Dictionary | Moodle and Mahara | Scoop.it

This is amazing AND free. Download the software. Parapal Hotspots allows you to take any jpeg image and add interactive regions so students can learn new terms and then test themselves.

SCORM compliant so works brilliantly in Moodle for self marking. This is a brilliant tool and so incredibly simple.

How can it be free!

Corinne Owen's curator insight, March 25, 2014 1:03 AM

This program is brilliant in its simplicity. It allows the user to take any jpeg image and add interactive regions for labels and annotations.

From labelling the structure of the Earth to explaining the

water cycle, diagrams make for great learning in the diverse classroom. The use of visuals as a teaching and learning strategy supports both student comprehension, retention and promotes communication.

Huge variety of interactive English grammar, listening and reading exercises and lessons. Free e-learning software downloads.

http://www.parapal-online.co.uk/parapal_demos.html has a suite of free software. The HotSpot task is great and can be SCORMed. The spelling feature that comes part of it is super for reinforcing key terms.

The http://www.parapal-online.co.uk/learning/demos/punctuation_scorm.zip is a template you can use to create really clever punctuation tasks that are also SCORMed. Show them to your English department and get them to suggest ideas.

It is an awesome site anyway with a number of free download FLASH games to use and a ridiculously cheap prices for amazing software suites.

What makes it even better is that with the Mahara Flash player you can upload your SWF file, select the External Media block and hey presto you have a quiz you can play that is embedded on your page!

Brilliant stuff

Course Design: Year 7 English (Non fiction)

Course Design: Year 7 English (Non fiction) | Moodle and Mahara | Scoop.it

Playing about with new course design for Moodle for English department. The CADR is part of the 5 form lesson structure.

What you see is essentially 3 separate Moodle labels. Rather than make up a simple title, I have added a heading and table.

Took ages to get the table design right. To create the box appearance I had to make extra "blank" columns between each section. The Moodle text editor can be quite trying!

Of course how good this looks depends on individual users resolutions and devices.

There is a summary of the task in the text and students click on the icon to see the detail. This could be an image (Saved PowerPoint file as PNG) or link to a Moodle activity etc.

The icon set are meant to reflect some form of Blooms-ish taxonomy. The full set are here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7336564/MOODLE/iconstogether.png

The course layout is "One Topic" and all the key files are on a "Teachers Only" tab which is hidden from students. One topic and Grid format are my personal favourites.

Embedding & Linking SkyDrive files on Moodle

How to embed and link a PowerPoint on Moodle via SkyDrive and how it updates automatically. Can't imaging why anyone would want to listen to me for 14 minutes but here it is.

Did this in a school TeachEat and demonstrate how to embed and link a PowerPoint from Skydrive on to a Moodle course.

There is a nice bit at the end that shows the power of the cloud as I update the PowerPoint and the changes are instant...

The  added bonus is that it is all free!

New GCSE Science Moodle Course with adapted grid format

New GCSE Science grid format
gideonwilliams's insight:

Quick video showing a design for a GCSE Biology course using Gareth Barnard's amazing grid format. Updated for Moodle 2.6 I have set it to show square images and made all the uploaded images square shape first (very important!)

The icon link design is one we use a lot of at Perins. External links are shown on a separate page. Internal links eg to downloadable files or Moodle activities are made to another topic that can be hidden from the students.

Some CSS changes made to the block. Looks not too shabby!

The Flash animations work well when you lnk to the SWF file. Nice hand tip from this location: http://www.wikihow.com/Save-Flash-Animation-from-Website

Return of the Random short -answer matching Moodle question type | Moodle Blog

Return of the Random short -answer matching Moodle question type | Moodle Blog | Moodle and Mahara | Scoop.it

In older versions of Moodle there was a question type called “Random short-answer matching” It was like the matching question type except that the answers to be matched actually came from previously made short-answer questions. It stopped working three years ago and has only just been fixed (thanks to French Moodling quiz enthusiast Jean-Michel Védrine) This week the question type has been put back into Moodle, so if you have the lastest Moodle versions, 2.5.5 and 2.6.2, you will be able to use it.

Many people however only started using Moodle recently and won’t even know of is prior existence. So this post is just to explain it and introduce it. Jean-Michel has added some detailed documentation on the Random short-answer matching question type.

If you have Moodle 2.5.5 or Moodle 2.6.2 then when you add a quiz question you will see this new type available:

There are two things to be aware of. (1) You can’t just add this question and make it there and then, like any other question type,  because you need first to have some short-answer questions pre-made and (2) those questions need to be connected in some way, share a theme.

Would love to hear about UK schools using badges as part of CPD. Was told that @stuartridout was considering this in his school.

Surely the lifting and handling badge is only around the corner (or on the shelf)?
