This is an app for the iPhone or Android, but I am posting it here in my "Montessori & Technology" Scoop.it page because this fits with a concept shared with me by a Montessori teacher who is seeking digital tools that will support and enhance the process of monitoring student work throughout the learning process. As we move into the 21st Century, it is becoming apparent that rote memorization, learning in isolation, and not having learning tied to authentic experiences are models of the past. Montessorians have known for years the importance of learning by discovery, working collaboratively with classmates, and putting skills to work in service learning or other authentic learning experiences. Montessori education is poised to have a huge impact on the way schools and classes are organized, as these new models reflect our most basic tenets.
So what if it were 2010 instead of 1913, and Montessori was asked to talk about technology? Would she condemn it, as being overly commercialized and abstract? Or would she embrace it, recommending the purchase of iPads in all of her schools?
