The English language is in danger. These days it’s common for words to be seen shortened or broken down into a ‘text language’ comprised of how the word sounds rather than spells. Replacing ‘Laugh Out Loud’ with ‘LOL’, and ‘Be Right Back’ with ‘BRB’, it’s not hard to work out why the current generation of secondary students show an increasing prevalence in spelling, grammar and basic literacy errors. This article shows several examples of modern digital literacy and how they are becoming more and more prevalent in modern classroom practicums.
