Gentlemen, we have all been, as young lads, in the same shoes as Jimmy Cooper in Quadrophenia, grinning from ear to ear while looking at the picture of a pretty lady.

Revival of the gentlemen (mod) - Malaysia

Revival of the gentlemen (mod) - Malaysia | Mod Scene Weekly | Scoop.it

The spirit of mod brings back an era when good manners and proper behaviour took precedence over everything else.

IT is not easy to define the mod look but there are clear definitions as to what mod is not.

“Mods are not into rock, hip hop or black metal, and we don’t like torn jeans,” says Azmeer Idrus, 35, a team building trainer.

The apt description comes from Mohammad Azwan Shah, better known as Wak Doyok. The co-founder of clothing line The Garment simplifies it by offering an antithesis: “The opposite of grunge would be mod.”

“Where grungers are messy, mods are prim,” adds Wak Doyok, 33. “We don’t wear T-shirts unless they are collared. Being a mod means not having a hair out of place and you’ve got to have that slightly aloof attitude,” says Wak Doyok, who was one of the nominees for Esquire magazine’s Best Dressed Real Man.

Faces in the Crowd

Faces in the Crowd | Mod Scene Weekly | Scoop.it
The documentary, Faces in the Crowd, is filmed during the Glasgow Mod Weekender and includes fascinating insights, images and stories from mods of all generations. Particularly absorbing is the story of Peter a mod from the 60's who encountered the mod scene first hand as a 14 year old in London. Throughout the documentary Emma captures the warmth of the mod scene crowd and manages to reflect all aspects of it. You can see that she has been meticulous in her preparation and interviews smart, knowledgeable people like Paul Boddy and Sandra Hutchinson who know the finer details of mod style and readily share their knowledge.

JOHN'S CHILDREN - Fri, 07/02/2014 @ 229

JOHN'S CHILDREN - Fri, 07/02/2014 @ 229 | Mod Scene Weekly | Scoop.it

John’s Children were the quintessential cult 60s Mod/Psych band, controversial, sharply dressed and subsequently the stuff of legend.

The band were fronted by Andy Ellison (later with Jet and Radio Stars) and boasted Marc Bolan within their ranks during their short life.

A new CD "A Strange Affair" ( Cherry Red ), compiled by Andy Ellison and with sleeve notes from ex-manager Simon Napier-Bell, has put together their entire sixties output in one lovingly packaged set. It is released on the 25th November 2013.

We are the mods - Episode 30 - The Continentalists | Mod Scene Weekly | Scoop.it

She's the epitome of sharp, exudes style and was a mod before there was even a name given to the peacock's populating coffee shops in the early 60's. In a world where style was everything and the term 'mod' wasn't yet even a glimmer in an ad executive's eye, they were…The Continentalist. Warren Peace chats with social media celeb Gill Evans about how her and husband Del's passion for Italian/French fashion, exquisite detail and design helped to shape modernisms earliest little-known incarnation.

Modernism 1961

Modernism 1961 | Mod Scene Weekly | Scoop.it

My earliest generation of modernists from '61 thru '62 in London.

The lightweight suit (mohair) was important and so was the button down / tab collar shirt ( all plagiarised from visiting US modern 'jazzers' or seen on album sleeves) The US clothes were bought at Austin's specialist menswear store on Shaftesbury Avenue. Shirt brands such as Hathaway /Arrow etc.

However, where have the 'plastic' Pakamac type  raincoats with the 'Peter Pan' collars buttoned-up, gone? Even the beige duffle-coat and Univ-scarf had it's place at one time!
