As universities evolve, classrooms will not disappear, but what happens in them will change dramatically.
Ralph Springett's insight:

A good read. He did not mention the reliance on the internet and the lack of student centered models that tackle distance learning offline - but perhaps we are not quite there yet - still getting our heads around MOOCs.

Researchers using student data in learning analytics cannot ignore ethical concerns. Plus the latest higher education appointments
Ralph Springett's insight:

"The ways students interact with their peers and tutors – increasingly a blend of online and face-to-face discussions can present significant difficulties for lecturers.

As well as teaching and learning issues there are issues of how to manage the data that is produced from the student-software interactions.

So, is Education Technology is a broader subject than the teaching and learning environment?

Are lectures the best way to teach students?

Are lectures the best way to teach students? | Mobilization of Learning | Scoop.it
University lectures are often slated for being boring and poorly attended, but is scrapping them a good idea? Two academics debate the matter
Ralph Springett's insight:

When the stakes are high and thousands of dollars ride on passing, the deficiencies of lecturing matter. The first post was written by privileged man who loves to recount the joys of learning while recent graduates buff his shoes.

The second contributors understand  - in an impersonal way - that what matters in 2015 is successful completion.

If you want a lecture make sure there is nothing riding on understanding what was said when you sneezed.

Smartphones have become ubiquitous and it is extremely critical for the elearning industry to have an app strategy for their curriculum.
Ralph Springett's insight:

Not convinced 'extremely critical' and 'vital' are the sorts of advice we should be dispensing or listening too. This article makes some good points, but misses the use of an app as a gateway and pathway tool.

Apps which provide access to support, library services, study spaces and social media networks may be what some students need.

Apps can be a good idea but lets be clear about the purpose before we say it is imperative to have the technology.

Ralph Springett's insight:

I agree on most fronts. I agree we have not even started in terms of true mobile delivery. Secondly, we will not get a quantum shift because of the massive shift required. The change required in education infrastructure, and pedagogy and design is fundamental and expensive. Finally, the ones who can afford it, the ivy league for example, are not the ones who need it.

Business is more likely to lead the mobile learning age.
