The University Should Be Seen as a Public Good - Higher Education

The University Should Be Seen as a Public Good - Higher Education | Mobilization of Learning | Scoop.it

In the 21st century, American colleges and universities face a difficult choice. Their governance models work well to provide the processes and procedures necessary to manage life behind the college gates. They are not adaptable, flexible and creative enough to adjust to the coming battle likely between credentials versus degrees. Indeed, on many campuses there is little understanding that the battle has already begun.

Ralph Springett's insight:

New models that free up learning resources are needed. Above that, students will pay for tuition and accreditation, but not at the inflated costs face-to-face demands.

Having Your Cake and Eating It Too: Designing for Multiple Mobile Devices | SweetRush | Mobilization of Learning | Scoop.it

When you’re on a limited budget, one of the best investments you can make upfront is a short analysis to determine the right mix of devices for your audience. Perhaps you don’t need a wedding cake, a birthday cake, and cupcakes; maybe you just need two of the three.

Ralph Springett's insight:

Seems to push back against the idea that HTML5 content packaged in sections can provide a good experience no matter the device. Is there now a higher expectation of functionality (apps) on phones and tablets compared to just a few years ago?

So why not WebApps?

Ralph Springett's insight:

It is not real change. The power continues to rest with the lecturer/institution. Support the learner to independence and we may see real disruption. This is tech + normal. Khan did better.

Please add, let's give the learner resources that empower them to learn independently (resources that are mobile and provide context, clarity and connections rather than content).
