4 Stages: The Integration Of Technology In Learning

4 Stages: The Integration Of Technology In Learning | Mobilization of Learning | Scoop.it
What are the stages of technology in learning, and how can these stages be used as a framework for improving learning?
Ralph Springett's insight:

Not sure about this. On a continum of directed to self-directed I think it is the level of direction and support, regardless of the tools, that should fill the middle space. A highly mobile learning resource can have high levels of structure and direction.

Education Needs Long-Term Technology Strategy - EdBlog

Education Needs Long-Term Technology Strategy - EdBlog | Mobilization of Learning | Scoop.it
The strategy that will drive the greatest success in education is one where technology plays a vital and huge role along with great teaching.
Ralph Springett's insight:
I can't agree that standardisation of education technologies is a way forward. But, I do agree that good planning at institutional level is critical. Appropriate platforms, good help and support, and a focus on teaching with technology support.
It is not about standardisation, it is about time - and time is money. Tutors need more time to search and find the right OER and then to edit the content for their situation. Tutors need time to learn how to use new tools and investigate emerging technologies. If there i could fix one thing it would be the time we give to tutors to plan and execute their teaching.

Is drag and drop the logical step towards a student designed interface? Allowing students to build their own home page from elements such as timetables, course notifications, social media feeds and events is technically straight-forward - the organisational strategy to go there is the challenge.

The issue for organisations is trust. Trusting the web interfaces is no problem. The issue lies in trusting the security of data and service. Depending on a faceless .org for your teaching and investing time and effort to build lessons is okay until the funding dries up.

A 2016 Look at the Future of Online Learning - Part 1 | teachonline.ca | Mobilization of Learning | Scoop.it

Online learning is no longer seen as novel or innovative – it is one of the tools available for teaching and learning and is in widespread use

Ralph Springett's insight:

An article worth reading - I wonder, though, if the view fails to recognise the struggle lower socio-economic groups have with access. Devices and connectivity underpin the thinking here, yet in my experience I see learners most in need struggling to afford connection costs. Yes they can come to the institution or go to a library but that is not anywhere, anytime.

Highlighting “leadership” is one of the most notable changes. The 2016 NETP devotes an entire section to leadership and to “creating a culture and conditions for innovation and change.

The priority of leadership applies equally  in New Zealand. Leadership and collaboration are required to apply, support and measure our education technology initiatives.
