Ralph Springett's insight:

A good, although American, view on the change coming. Nothing here about the potential for higher education to further develop the class system within itself. The 'poor' being the MOOC students with their struggle to build netwoks of influence in a fugue of online noise, and the 'wealthy' being the on-campus students connected by frat relationships and existing business and family ties.

Principals criticise online learning plan

Principals criticise online learning plan | Mobilization of Learning | Scoop.it
Palmerston North principals are hot under the collar over a new online schooling initiative.
Ralph Springett's insight:
Blended study is not new. This policy change brings it to the mainstream. While there is potential for private business to offer solutions, schools remain responsible for students education. Schools need to think about the model of learning and support they provide and put the student in the centre of that thinking.

As districts across the country purchase technology at a feverish pace, they must ensure they have a solid implementation plan.
Ralph Springett's insight:
Begin your change process with an agreed 21 century learning and teaching model. This does not have to be set in stone - allow practice to inform the model over time. Support 21 century learning and teaching practice: provide learner and teacher support; resource rich media production; integrate online learning platforms; communicate. Provide devices equitably: do NOT introduce a voluntary BYOD policy.

Education Needs Long-Term Technology Strategy - EdBlog

Education Needs Long-Term Technology Strategy - EdBlog | Mobilization of Learning | Scoop.it
The strategy that will drive the greatest success in education is one where technology plays a vital and huge role along with great teaching.
Ralph Springett's insight:
I can't agree that standardisation of education technologies is a way forward. But, I do agree that good planning at institutional level is critical. Appropriate platforms, good help and support, and a focus on teaching with technology support.
It is not about standardisation, it is about time - and time is money. Tutors need more time to search and find the right OER and then to edit the content for their situation. Tutors need time to learn how to use new tools and investigate emerging technologies. If there i could fix one thing it would be the time we give to tutors to plan and execute their teaching.
