Here's How One Marketer Made Google Mobile Ads Pay Off

Here's How One Marketer Made Google Mobile Ads Pay Off | MobileWeb | Scoop.it
Amid widespread concerns that mobile advertising may never work as well as ads served to people’s desktop and laptop computers, several companies are attempting to prove the naysayers wrong. Facebook partners piled on earlier this week with studies showing the social network’s mobile ads produce way more clicks and revenues than its desktop ads.

Now it’s Google‘s turn. This morning it’s trotting out, along with updated mobile search ads, a case study of how T-Mobile last year used Google mobile search ads to try to get more new customer activations to its cellular service. Kari Nicholas, T-Mobile’s director of media, said in an interview that the company aimed to do that by making it easier to sign up online or reach them via their existing mobile phone to visit nearby stores.

Optimizing your Mobile Website for Search

Optimizing your Mobile Website for Search | MobileWeb | Scoop.it
The differences between mobile and desktop search results, and how to optimize your mobile site for mobile users.

In case any of you have been wondering about the impact and importance of Mobile Search, this article should bring you to some very clear conclusions on the matter. I will also give you some tips and instructions on the best way to go about optimizing your website for Mobile Search.

Everyone agrees that modern mobile devices have changed the way we interact, keep track of our schedules, stay organized, play games etc. But what has their impact been on the way we browse the internet? What are users looking for when they type a search query on their smartphone in contrast to their computer at home, and most importantly for you, how can companies, large and small, take advantage of it?

The first thing you should know about mobile search is that the impact it has made in all these areas has been enormous, and yet still growing rapidly. By the year 2014, it is estimated that smartphones will be the most popular tool for accessing the internet, and search will obviously be a high percentage of the time spent on those mobile devices. Here’s another interesting statistic. According to Google, 95% of all smartphone users have searched for Local Info, and Local searches currently account for about 40% of all mobile searches. This is something that any business, especially small businesses who deal mostly locally, should take notice of. What’s even more interesting is how these users are acting upon their searches. Roughly 61% of users have called a business by phone after a search, 59% of these have visited the physical location following a search, and 90% of these users acted within 24 hours. Finally, it’s definitely worth noting the differences in search queries from desktops to smartphone. Mobile search queries are typically longer and more descriptive with more keywords. Basically, these people know what they want, they’re out and about looking, and they’re ready to act. The website that’s coming up highest in those mobile search results, with that smooth simple and professional user interface, offering a clear call the action is going to win their business. Are you convinced yet of the impact and importance of Mobile Search and the need for Mobile Search Optimization? I thought so. So what small steps can you take in 2012 to start getting more out of mobile search? Here a few simple steps to start implementing right away.

Mobile Website Vs Mobile Applications :: Compare The Concepts | MobileWeb | Scoop.it
Mobile devices have actually made the world into a global nexus which is connected 24×7. Everything is acquired on the move with that small gadget of yours and makes the information easily palatable to you. The development of mobile applications can be majorly categorised into two types: Mobile websites and mobile apps.

Comparing and contrasting these can give a clear idea about which one to choose. Mobile Payment Startup Square Growing Strong And Transforming ... | MobileWeb | Scoop.it
Some ideas are just too good to be true, and accepting credit card payments with a mobile device is one of them. Square, the mobile payment startup conceived by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, quickly became the poster child of smartphone-enabled technology in its first year of operation. Now, the company has continued its growth, launched new services and racked up some big numbers in a very short time: 2 million users, an annualized rate of over $6 billion in transactions, and a $4 billion valuation…all in just 2 years and despite an increasing number of competitors jumping into the game.

Design Your Website for Mobile First #mobileweb

Design Your Website for Mobile First #mobileweb | MobileWeb | Scoop.it
To address the mobile revolution, many companies have created a second mobile version of their website so their content can be viewed on smart phones without a problem. But there are big problems! First, you have to design, maintain, and pay for two separate websites. When you update one, the other is in most cases not automatically updated. Additionally, the mobile site is designed for a specific mobile screen size. If your user does not have that phone model, they will still have to scroll around to see your mobile site version. A better idea—in addition to making your website adaptive—is to redesign your website…and this time design it for mobile first.

Passbook Is the Beginning of Mobile Payments On iOS

Passbook Is the Beginning of Mobile Payments On iOS | MobileWeb | Scoop.it
Passbook is a new mobile wallet from Apple that will debut in iOS. Right now it's not about payments, it's about ticket aggregation, but it's a sign of things to come. Currently, it allows you to combine your tickets and loyalty cards into one convenient place. It's intuitive, and pretty spectacular.

Example 1: You buy movie tickets online. You show up at the theatre. Rather than fumble around for your pass, your phone's GPS senses that you've arrived, and your electronic ticket pops up on your phone automatically, ready to be scanned.

Apple offers a peek into updated Mobile Safari, PhotoStream - TUAW | MobileWeb | Scoop.it
During today's WWDC 2012 Keynote, Scott Forestall provided a peek at new features expected in Mobile Safari when iOS 6 ships.

There's now an offline reading list in Mobile Safari, making it simple to capture web pages for viewing without a cellular or Wi-Fi connection. That'll work great during those flights where onboard Wi-Fi is just a dream. And for the first time, you'll be able to upload photos to sites via Mobile Safari. Smart App Banners are another new feature that give the browser a way to link banners directly to websites. For example, if you go to a mobile site like Yelp and there's an app available, a tap on the banner will jump to the Yelp app on the App Store.

Mobile Payments: A Trillion Dollar Industry… Once Everyone Can Actually Make A Payment

Mobile Payments: A Trillion Dollar Industry… Once Everyone Can Actually Make A Payment | MobileWeb | Scoop.it
“Is that a Windows phone? Uh, sorry about that…. we only accept payments from Apple devices.”

The absurdity of the above statement is crystal clear. Basic transfer of money from one party to another in exchange for goods and services shouldn’t be this exclusive. Yet, this is where we find ourselves today.

Did we just unveil the new “we don’t accept American Express” of our generation?

Closed and restrictive payment systems don’t expand economic prosperity, they hinder it. Recent articles questioning if we really need NFC payments, and the lack of democratized payment systems highlight how far we are from a mobile payment utopia.

In this utopia, I see a democratized world where the device you have in your hand doesn’t determine if you can pay for your daily sandwich. Mobile payments needs to grow up significantly if it’s going to be worth more than a trillion dollars by 2016,

Mobile-Optimized Site or Dedicated App? Determining What is Right for Your Business

Mobile-Optimized Site or Dedicated App? Determining What is Right for Your Business | MobileWeb | Scoop.it
Consider the following before making a choice...
With the massive proliferation and use of mobile devices such as iPads, smartphones, Android tablets, and advanced e-readers, it has become increasingly necessary for companies to expand their presence in a way that allows for easy access from these relatively new pieces of tech.

According to Nielsen in their 3Q 2011 Social Media Report, approximately 40 percent of social media users access their accounts through mobile devices. As of now, the two most popular ways to reach mobile consumers are through an application or a mobile-based website. While some may think the decision arbitrary, or even that it is necessary to create both, the truth is that choosing incorrectly can result in lost revenue and even utility disadvantages. With that in mind, consider the following before deciding to optimize a site for mobile or build a dedicated app.

How to create mobile friendly landing pages

How to create mobile friendly landing pages | MobileWeb | Scoop.it
With recent data indicating that 20% of all mobile phone owners made a purchase using their phone in 2011, there’s an obvious need to effectively reach consumers on mobile devices.

And with mobile web usage expected to surpass desktop web by 2015, delivering a seamless and relevant mobile experience will only grow in importance.

Unlike traditional desktop web browsing, where online brands have the full attention of their customers, mobile users are often distracted while engaging with you on their smartphone. But they also may be looking for that perfect pair of shoes.

How can you tell, and most importantly, use what you know about the mobile visitor to increase their likelihood of converting?
