Mobile Path to Purchase Study: Optimizing the Mobile Funnel

Mobile Path to Purchase Study: Optimizing the Mobile Funnel | MobileWeb | Scoop.it

Intent to purchase: it is perhaps the least discussed and most important aspect of conversion optimization. Ultimately, you focus on improving your website conversions to attract leads, build better relationships with customers, and most of all make sales. The ability to identify when a customer has a firm intent to purchase gives you a clear advantage. But how can you identify the intent to purchase and take steps to foster it in today’s mobile environment? One new report is offering powerful insights for marketers, entrepreneurs, and data analysts thinking about this issue.

Telmetrics recently released their third annual Mobile Path to Purchase study, in partnership with XAd and the Nielsen Company. Each year, the study seeks to find data, trends, and patterns on what factors are influencing mobile device use in the United States. By extension, the analysts are able to identify consumer mobile usage behaviors and the implications for intent to purchase.

The results provide specific insights into a range of verticals from retail to travel. But there are major takeaways that can inform any mobile strategy.

Why you must master mobile ecommerce

Why you must master mobile ecommerce | MobileWeb | Scoop.it

Since 2011, many in the design community have been pushing responsive design to our clients as a “nice-to-have” feature. But in 2014, reality has set in: a responsive website has become an essential part of any company’s online presence.

One area of the Web that is way behind in terms of providing a modern, easy-to-use interface for customers is online retail. Many retailers, even large ones, have not invested the resources to build a responsive estore that works across all device sizes and forms.

But is a full-blown responsive estore really necessary? I mean who actually puchases something on their phone these days? Everybody knows people just use phones for music, photos and social media – right?

Amazon Launches Local Register, A Square Competitor With Lower Transaction Rates

Amazon Launches Local Register, A Square Competitor With Lower Transaction Rates | MobileWeb | Scoop.it

Amazon has launched a Square and PayPal Here competitor called Local Register, which provides users with a free app and a $10 card reader, and charges merchants and anyone selling services who use it just 1.75 percent per swipe on both credit and debit transactions, so long as users sign up before October 31. That’s a special rate, and is a full percentage point lower than Square’s 2.75 percent per swiped transaction (3.5 percent plus 15 cents for manual entry), and will last until January 1, 2016, at which point it will return to the standard 2.5 percent per transaction Amazon is charging (or 2.75 percent for manually entered transactions).

Retailers Must Gear Up for Mobile Influenced Cross-Channel Sales

Retailers Must Gear Up for Mobile Influenced Cross-Channel Sales | MobileWeb | Scoop.it

Cross-channel sales, also known as web-influenced sales, are purchases that are touched by a digital channel but are not completed online.  According to US data from Forrester, cross-channel sales are becoming increasingly important and are worth four times more in total than online sales alone. In fact, the analyst estimates that cross-channel sales will reach $1.8 trillion by 2018.

A big part of this new trend involves people using mobile devices at the pre-shop phase to gather more information about products and comparing different options before they buy. Often this is while they are actually in-store ahead of making an online purchase.

That’s not to say that mobile sales conversions are not rising also. According to UK figuresfrom IMRG, much of the £91bn shoppers spent online in 2013 was driven by mobile commerce, with over a quarter (27%) of internet sales coming directly from tablets and smartphones.

LinkedIn’s mobile profile revamp is a milestone. Now it’s really serious about mobile

LinkedIn’s mobile profile revamp is a milestone. Now it’s really serious about mobile | MobileWeb | Scoop.it

With 43 percent of Web traffic coming from mobile devices, LinkedIn is a fan of mobile. A new look for mobile profiles is the latest proof that LinkedIn wants to look its best on mobile phones and tablets.

“It’s actually the first time that we are launching something on phone and tablet simultaneously and on mobile specifically first for our entire company, instead of desktop,” Kiran Prasad, LinkedIn’s senior director of engineering, said in an interview with VentureBeat.

A few major companies have been becoming mobile first, or saying so, anyway. Facebook’s mobile advertising provides  62 percent of the company’s $2.68 billion ad revenue. Microsoft is getting a lot more serious about mobile, and it finally introduced the Office software package for Apple’s iPad in March this year. And Twitter’s latest earnings statement shows that Twitter has been enjoying a huge increase in mobile users and mobile ad revenue. LinkedIn seems to want to follow suit.

Medialets’ tools mean mobile advertisers can track campaigns in real time

Medialets’ tools mean mobile advertisers can track campaigns in real time | MobileWeb | Scoop.it

Mobile ad publishers looking to maximize campaigns — and dollars — may have a new friend in town.

Mobile-attribution play Medialets, headquartered in Manhattan, unveiled a new set of tools today that enables publishers and advertisers to track how their ad campaigns are fairing across multiple mobile devices. This isn’t analytics per se; it’s about real-time attribution. Medialets, a software provider, is calling its new suite of tools Servo Total Attribution.

“This is about every place that saw the ad and then the placement of that ad. We can tell the advertisers where people saw the ads,” said Medialets founder and chief executive Eric Litman. “The question is: How is that ad performing?”

The mobile ad attribution sector — where advertisers can see where their campaigns are receiving clicks and downloads — is getting crowded. Brands want to see how their ads are fairing, and attribution software is one of the primary ways they are able to do this.

Google To Go After Amazon By Stepping Up E-Commerce Offerings | MobileWeb | Scoop.it

Cnet reports that Google wants to challenge Amazon’s dominance in the e-commerce market by expanding the resources of its Google Shopping Express service.

Shopping Express is a service that lets users buy products from local retailers, and delivers them to their doors the same day or next day. It was first announced in March 2013.

Recode was first to release a report detailing Google’s plans to beef up the Shopping Express service by investing as much as $500 million into it. However, Cnet says that number is “quite exaggerated”, according to sources close to Google.

SnapUp Lets You Go Shopping, Track Prices Just By Taking Screenshots On Your iPhone

SnapUp Lets You Go Shopping, Track Prices Just By Taking Screenshots On Your iPhone | MobileWeb | Scoop.it

A new application launching today on the iTunes App Store wants to make mobile shopping – including organizing products you like from multiple stores and receiving price drop notifications – as simple as taking a screenshot on your phone. SnapUp, as the app is called, is able to automatically identify and recognize the products you save as screenshots in your iPhone’s Camera Roll, allowing you to then move those products into lists, keep track of sales and other deals, and then finally buy when the price is right.

“The biggest problem in mobile – from a consumer standpoint – is that there’s no way to bookmark anything,” explains Mehta of the challenges faced when mobile shopping. “In order to bookmark something you need to have it work inside each app, and each app has a different UX [user experience] for bookmarking something or sharing it,” he says.

In addition to that, tablets will rise to break the 300 million unit mark in 2014 (combining tablet shipments of 263 million and shipments of “other ultramobiles” of 40 million units).
