I love to see how others have their iPads laid out. I actually have my iPhone and iPad with prominent apps in the same places so I never have to hunt. Here are my screens and notes about current rationale for how I organize things. Even if you have a Droid or something else, the apps and the concepts may help you as you decide how you're going to organize things.
NEOMAD is very cool iPad interactive comic created with the help of rad talented indigenous kids from Roebourne located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. This is first of its kind - a indigenous sci-fi adventure comic series, the story is based on real characters and places with in a fictional context. The comic features over 60 pages of illustrations, action films, extras, music and voice overs.
According to Apple, in January of this year, at least 1.5 million iPads were adopted by educational institutions and an astounding 20,000+ education-related apps were found in the App Store.
Google just mistakenly announced updated versions of its Google Drive apps for iOS and Android that will go live within the next couple of days. Google has since deleted this post, but the updates are scheduled to arrive soon.
The iPad looks amazing when projected onto a large screen. The students in a 1 to 1 iPad classroom gets to see the apps at work. Have a look at the list below to see if any of these might be useful in your classroom. This coming school year, 325 7th graders will be receiving their own iPads in a pilot program at Citrus Springs Middle School in Citrus Springs, Florida. This may not sound like big news to some, but in our district, it's a pretty huge deal. We had some struggles using Apple Configurator to get them set up and deployed, so I created this step by step document. Using rubrics and providing student's feedback via the iPad has not been an area that has received a great deal of attention. This is, however, starting to change. The Amazon Kindle Fire has come blazing into schools, especially those with a BYOD focus. After all, Xmas just went by, and kids are dying to show off to each other what "Santa brung them!" Of course, I'm still trying to decide if I want to buy a Kindle Fire for my own use. I've already decided that the iPad 3 is a device I will probably invest in, but since I love my B&N Nook (the original), I don't need to invest in yet another device.
