Hi Ana! So glad you liked the video. Yes, it is refreshing! And I feel like you do -- women do need to be mentioned as speakers and movers and shakers instead of just characters. In fact women in the field of story work need larger voices. Thanks for the comment!
Tommy Walker's comment, March 8, 2013 11:19 AM
Wow, thank you so much for sharing this! Ana, to your question about not having women speakers, we've only just started this show, and this was the second episode. We do plan on having women panelists for future episodes, and some very influential ones at that. There are some really big plans for this format for the future.

Web Design Is About Serving People's Needs: The Art of Web Design | PBS

Robin Good: A great short video from PBS brings together the views and opinions of three great web designers: Jason Santa Maria, Jeffrey Zeldman, Whitney Hess.

From BoingBoing.net: "The explosion of the internet over the past 20 years has led to the development of one of the newest creative mediums: the website.

Web designers have adapted through the technological developments of html, CSS, Flash, and JavaScript, and have mastered the balance between creativity and usability.

Now with the advance of mobile, the greatest websites have taken user experience and responsive design to the next level, and continue our evolution from print to a digital world."

Good stuff. Interesting. 8/10

Instagram for Video: Ptch | Mobile Websites vs Mobile Apps | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Ptch is a new iOS app which allows you to "style" and easily share with your friends, short 60-seconds photos and video clips.

From Fast Company: "Ptch picks up where your static photo feeds on Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, Viddy, Facebook, and Google+ leave off.

Dreamworks, the animation studio behind Shrek, is backing the iOS app, which launches today and lets users create, edit, and share 60-second mini-movies from their own photos and video clips.

Then comes the movie magic. Ptch helps users add title cards, offers soundtrack help with one of more than 80 preloaded songs, and even integrates comments from your social networks.

Like other outfits that do Instagram-like treatments for video, Ptch lets mini-movie makers wrap their creations in one of eight styles. You can share new creations on Ptch, as well as on your desired social channels."

How to Create More Powerful Content Marketing Stories

How to Create More Powerful Content Marketing Stories | Mobile Websites vs Mobile Apps | Scoop.it

These days, we hear a lot about the fact that content marketers need to be storytellers. Here are tips on how to create powerful content marketing stories.

I've curated this great video before from Chipotle, but it deserves another look. Not only did the company win awards and 7 million views for the video, they also took it a step further and told the story behind making the video. Good for them! Back stories are very powerful. Here's the link to the back story video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFlbGwAW7rw&feature=relmfu

And I really like how the author Manya Chylinski talks about the functions stories serve, and how biz or branding stories can have many of these same functions, but with a twist. Your stories are more than entertainment -- they are your authentic voice. You share them to build loyalty, trust, engage with customers, and grow your business.

The author's tips are solid -- but nothing really new. So go watch the video again for a refresher example on effective brand storytelling and the other video as a back-story example!

Instantaneous Push-To-Talk Video Chat: QuicklyChat

Instantaneous Push-To-Talk Video Chat: QuicklyChat | Mobile Websites vs Mobile Apps | Scoop.it

Robin Good: QuicklyChat is a new real-time collaboration downloadable software for PCs and Macs (Linux coming) which allows you to easily video chat with your teammates.

Key characterizing trait for Quicklychat is its ability to auto-signal to your contacts whether you are effectively busy or not (depending on what you are actually doing on your computer - this is configurable) and to connect to any of your contacts in one-second time.

From the official site: "The biggest difference between QuicklyChat and conventional video communication is that QuicklyChat auto-answers incoming calls when the recipient is available.

Incoming connections are displayed in an unobtrusive notification window, so you can keep working if you're in the middle of an important thought, without having to think about how to respond to an incoming call."

Free to use.

Visual Storytelling: The Key Weapon to Content Marketing

Visual Storytelling: The Key Weapon to Content Marketing | Mobile Websites vs Mobile Apps | Scoop.it

"Thanks to social networks, we’ve naturally been driven to a host of metrics that include attributes of “engagement” and conversations shared online."

"This, in turn, has fueled the content marketing race – and ultimately, the quest for producing what is most relevant or valuable to a company’s current and prospective customers."

"As we compete in this context to draw attention for our brand and offerings, perhaps one element has remained constant above all others: the power of visual storytelling."

Low-Latency, Speedy, No-Frill Access To YouTube Video Clips with YouTube Feather

Low-Latency, Speedy, No-Frill Access To YouTube Video Clips with YouTube Feather | Mobile Websites vs Mobile Apps | Scoop.it

Robin Good: If you are frequently unable to see YouTube videos stream smoothly to your screen, either because your computer is starting to show its age or because your Internet connection is not that fast, this experimental opt-in feature from your YouTube may solve your problem.

Called YouTube Feather, this new feature allows you to access msny YouTube-hosted videos by severely limiting the features available on the page and optimizing the delivery of the video by drastically reducing the amount of data transferred.

"YouTube Feather removes the information panel, share button, most of the related videos, video responses, vote counts on each comment, the medium-size player option, like and dislike counts for the video, and the capability to add the video to a list."

Source: http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57475427-285/use-youtube-feather-beta-for-low-bandwidth-connections/

You can try it out now by going to http://www.youtube.com/feather_beta and clicking on "Join the Feather Beta" blue text.

You can also turn off the feature at any time by going back to the above URL and clicking on "Leave the Feather Beta".

You can provide feedback to YouTube about this experimental feature here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/label?lid=31a878cd44b81c60&hl=en

N.B.: The Feather feature may not work on all videos.

Tablet Publishing: Make Your Blog Into a Gorgeous iPad Magazine (free)

Tablet Publishing: Make Your Blog Into a Gorgeous iPad Magazine (free) | Mobile Websites vs Mobile Apps | Scoop.it

Robin Good: OnSwipe is a brand new service which allows any web publisher to instantly create a beautiful-looking iPad magazine by simply providing the references to RSS feeds, Twitter, YouTube/Flickr channels and more. OnSwipe does the rest.

The service is extremely simple to use. Just go to OnSwipe.com, click Get Started, and one registered you only need to provide the URL or name of your different content or social media channels.

OnSwipe also helps you select an appropriate design layout theme, that will be used to display your content on your iPad output.

Once you have setup all of your content sources, OnSwipe provides you with a snippet of JavaScript code to place in the head tag of your web site. iPad-based web site visitors visiting it will automatically "see" the "optimized" OnSwipe view.

You can also setup a custom domain such as robingood.onswipe.com for your iPad aficionados.

Very promising. 9/10

N.B.: The service looks like it has been freshly baked and there are a few things that may not work yet as expected. I am myself testing it and trying to understand how to make it work.
