Es una aplicación potente y muy fácil de usar que nos permite crear clips de vídeo reproduciendo una historia  con frases de texto que hayamos ideado entre dos o más personajes.

 

El video final se puede compartir directamente en Google+ o como un enlace para cualquier sitio que deseemos (por desgracia, no se muestra una vista previa o miniatura cuando se trata de compartir vídeo creado con StoryBuilder en Facebook).

Hi Ana! So glad you liked the video. Yes, it is refreshing! And I feel like you do -- women do need to be mentioned as speakers and movers and shakers instead of just characters. In fact women in the field of story work need larger voices. Thanks for the comment!

Wow, thank you so much for sharing this! Ana, to your question about not having women speakers, we've only just started this show, and this was the second episode. We do plan on having women panelists for future episodes, and some very influential ones at that. There are some really big plans for this format for the future.

Have started showing students during Google presentation tutorials how to outline their presentations like they always do with those bulleted lines on the slides.  Then take those sentences, change them into titles, and put one title on each slide. Select one image per slide. If needed, add URL links. Add the works cited for the image in tiny print at the bottom of the slide. Move those outlined bulleted points to the note section or toss into a document to print out for a group presenetation.

 

No more slides crowded with text and 4 images! No more students sleeping in the classroom while their classmates read from the Smartboard.

This is a PowerPoint presentation that would have sent my former employers into shock. They had no imagination whatsoever. However, Eugene Cheng clearly has wonderful artistic skills and knows how to present them. In addition, he clearly has a nice budget to work with. These kind of beautiful graphics don't come at low price. I thoroughly enjoyed glancing through this presentation and plan to use it as inspiration for future projects.

Many companies don't know where to start when it comes to storytelling. Especially, B2B companies. There is a good way to start and that is asking the right questions. And what a better way than to be ask questions geared toward the underutilized marketing tool of storytelling.

With that depressing lead-in to this review of Chris Ware's new book, I hesitated to curate it. But the construction of the book itself is so intriguing that I decided, "What the heck."


And how does this remotely connect to business storytelling? Here's why:


I think what Ware did is quite a unique twist on storytelling -- he's definitely pushing the envelope in how to engage with stories and create new meanings from how a person engages with his work. That in and of itself is cool to know about.


And your biz stories could be thought of -- maybe even organized and delivered -- in a similar way. Our biz stories are a collection, a set, of stories that interact with each other in different times and in different ways. When I am with one client, I may select several stories to tell. When I am with a different client, I may repeat some of those stories and add/subtract others. So biz storytelling is best thought of as fluid.


And in enterprises, sets of stories can be arranged and rearranged in infinite combinations.


So what if we could convey our biz stories like Ware has done? It certainly is intriguing to think about!


On another note -- since the holidays are coming, this also could be a really cool gift. It's pricey -- and last I checked it was on back-order from Amazon. But if you are looking for a gift that is really different, this could be for you!

"As the buzz about content marketing, social media and all things digital continues to rise, one of the catch phrases that gets a lot of attention is storytelling in marketing. We afford it incredible lip service but do we actually practice it?"


Hmmmm -- good question. Here the author, Drew McLellan asks if in previous decades business was better at storytelling in its marketing and advertising.

 

Makes you think. Drew includes 3 videos to make his point. The first is a 1980s video from Dunkin Donuts as an example of effective storytelling. Well -- it is definitely not storytelling but instead an add that is all features and benefits.

 

The other two advertising videos however, are great examples from the past of really good stories.

 

I don't know if our biz storytelling is not as good these days as in previous decades. But I do like the questions Drew poses at the end of the post to help us decide.

Telling stories, connectedlyScreen AfricaThere are a couple of points that are worth remembering as you try to transition to a more connected form of digital storytelling. Firstly, the audience is in control.

 

Now here is a thoughtful article that shares with us a glimpse of the future -- specifically the technologies on the horizon that will continue to change the tools we use to share our biz stories.

 

The main point of this post is the increasing importance of connecting and sharing your stories across different technology media -- computer, iPads, mobile. And in various forms -- digital stories, social media snippets, online maps, and the like. To be the most effective, your biz stories need to connect and link together -- be part of a focused whole.

 

This does not mean you have a single narrative that is shared across platforms and through different technologies. This means you have a series of biz stories that you share. Some of these stories are best shared digitally, some in social media, others face-to-face (yes, that is still a technology available to us!!), others on our website, etc. The entire collection of your biz stories create your brand, your voice, your reputation.

 

This is a good "let's step back and see the big picture" article.

 

I very much like the author's points at the end: all of these choices can be overwhelming, and get help from others to work with the new tools. Now if I just had a few more hours each day to use more of these digital tools .... :))

"I’ve long maintained that phenomena like “social media” are behaviors, more so than channels or applications or types of media inventory, what have you. There are extrinsic factors at play like market movements, various forms of scarcity, supply and demand levers, etc. and there are intrinsic factors like human emotion that are rarely, if ever, discussed when it comes to making investments in these types of ventures."

 

My colleague and fellow curator Jan L. Gordon originally shared this post and I thought it would be great to include here also.

 

Why? Because effective storytelling is about conveying emotions. Yet when we share our biz stories, what emotions should we be focusing on? It is easy to default to hope. Or confidence. 

 

What I like about this chart and post is that it addresses the common emotions people experience as they interact and share online -- both positive and negative.

 

It seems logical to me that in knowing this information, we should be paying attention to whether the emotions we are conveying in our biz stories online are connecting with the emotional experiences of people. This chart can help us figure it out.

 

Now, I wouldn't want to be limited to slavishly sticking to this chart. But it is a good place to begin!

 

As the author, Gunther Sonnenfeld says, "I believe that any great technology venture (any great company, really) must provide doors to perception and discovery that look well beyond transactional or even relationship benefits to some degree." Yeah! Treating business storytelling as purely transactional or relational is only the first rung of effectiveness.

 

And don't forget to read the comments at the end of the post. They are chock full of great insights and discussion about online storytelling, branding, and emotion.

I love this article! It puts anyone's content strategy into a fabulous storytelling context, and gives all of us a way to think about our websites from a narrative perspective.

 

The ideas here are very helpful and fun to play with. The author, Kat French, did a good job.

 

Using The Quest story format, you can easily share your customers stories.

 

Using The Boy Meets Girl format, you can evaluate your website and tell/share your biz stories much better.

I also like what Kevin Murray, chairman of PR agency the Good Relations Group, says: “I use stories to entertain people at dinner parties to amuse. But in business you need to tell stories that make a difference.” Good point!

She tells it in an engaging way, you can experience the difference it makes when she's talking with clients about the 'why' behind her business.

 

Yeah! I always like really good examples to share with you. And I am sure that Geil's sales do increase because she is willing to tell this story.

 

So try it out! Geil's story should give you some good ideas for how to get started and craft your story.

Can you tell stories with maps? Yes you can!

 

OK -- I love maps. I'm a geographer at heart. I love reading them and finding all the tiniest back roads to travel.

 

Here is a terrific interview with Exec. VP & Chief Cartographer at National Geographic Maps about their story and map initiative. He explains what they are doing and how storytelling through maps can happen. It is another creative twist on visual storytelling and infographics.

Is it classic traditional storytelling? Well.....it's kind of borderline. But does it work? Oftentimes yes.

 

Now what the heck can this do for a business? Well, think about your biz stories and how they could be charted on a map. Add a map to your About Page to visually represent your journey. Add a map to your Founding Story so we can see it visually.

 

I bet you will come up with several more ideas!

If you’re only developing content with consumption in mind, you’re missing a huge opportunity to keep momentum going as prospective buyers move through the buying cycle.

 

I've said this before -- biz storytelling is about engagement, not simply broadcasting messages.

 

This is the first article I've found that actually tries to break down the different types of conversations you want your biz stories to spark or serve.

 

I disagree with the distinction between dialogue and conversation. I think a better distinction to make is between messaging and conversation. And stories are often shared within a conversation. Conversations are not necessarily storytelling. So that is my nit-pick for today.

 

I really wish the author, Stephanie Tilton, would have included examples for each type of conversation mentioned. She tries to explain the different conversations but I need examples this morning in order to get ideas for how to apply her advice. Or maybe I'm just too tired this morning!

 

So there are 2 lessons here -- 1) target your storytelling to the conversations you want to promote and help along; and 2) make sure when you write content you give examples so you don't make it so hard for your readers to apply your insights.

 

I also really like the point the author makes about shifting from talking to listening, and shifting to serial storytelling in your business.

 

OK -- I'm heading into the kitchen for some more coffee!

OK -- what's this got to do with biz storytelling?  Well, everything! 

 

I love the author's point: biz storytelling is how you imagine and re-imagine stories that will get your audiences inspired.  Mitch Joel has other points to make in this article to help you build desire, which is also important.

 

Engaging audiences is hard enough to do. But sharing compelling stories about you, your company, your products/services is very powerful to build engagement.  

 

But I'm thinking that these days, more and more, our biz storytelling needs to be about something greater than simply engaging our audiences -- we need to inspire them.  

 

How do you inspire them? We can do this not only by following Mitch's tips, but by adding a story we forget to tell -- our future story.

 

This is a story about your vision of the future -- the future you are creating with your business and how customers, by being in a relationship with you, help create that future.  Now that can be awesomely inspiring.  Think TOMS shoes.  Think Toyota's Prius.  Think your company.  How is your work making a difference?  Start there.  Keep exploring.  The story is just below the surface.  Find it.  Bring it alive.  Share it.  Keep the inspiration flowing.
