Creative Book Builder

Creative Book Builder | Mobile Technologies and Literacy | Scoop.it

Creative Book Builder is a fantastic app that allows students to create books in epub format, which can then be exported to iBooks and shared with others. There are a variety of instructional uses for this app, from using it as a publishing tool for project-based learning to a summative assessment at the end of a unit ...

This would work well with the implementation of an eBook signout system that allows the publishing of student work.

Ricard Garcia's curator insight, March 4, 2013 4:47 AM

Let's get ambitious!!! I'm sure students will love it. Hard work and high rewarding outcomes!

Catherine Thomas-Varcoe's curator insight, March 20, 2013 6:21 AM

An app that could be built into student activities or assessment if iPads are introduced across the board.

Redefining the Writing Process with iPads

Redefining the Writing Process with iPads | Mobile Technologies and Literacy | Scoop.it

With iPads, once we begin thinking beyond the confines of a page, anything is possible. Consider the video below created several years ago by two of my students. First they wrote plot summaries. Then they wrote character sketches. From there, they crafted paragraphs about theme, tying the visual and auditory elements of their videos back to the books. Finally, they created storyboards and bibliographies before producing and publishing their final product.

Worth taking a look at.  How many times have you heard people ask what their students can "do" on the ipad to submit their work.  This will walk you through using the ipad for writing.

Teacher iPad Orientation Toolkit: 6 Tools Every Teacher Should Master

Teacher iPad Orientation Toolkit: 6 Tools Every Teacher Should Master | Mobile Technologies and Literacy | Scoop.it

"Recently I co-facilitated an iPad 101 workshop for secondary teachers with fellow iVenger colleagues (@mryenca,@classroom_tech, and @fiskeclass). As we are a K-12 1:1 school district, this course was not a “just the basics” course but truly designed to meet the individual needs of each of the learners. After introductions, we asked each attendee what they wanted to learn. While we didn’t plan it, naturally… many of the proposed topics fell into the usual categories: workflow, organization, assessment, etc…"

16 Apps That Motivate Kids to Read | Mobile Technologies and Literacy | Scoop.it

"For every kid who is caught hiding beneath his covers with a flashlight and a novel at midnight, there is another who has to be begged and pleaded with to read.  And the latter might need a little extra—shall we call it encouragement?—to become a great reader. To help, we've rounded up a list of the top apps that not only teach essential reading skills but also motivate kids—even the most book-phobic—to read, read and read some more."

How I see the SAMR Model - Allanah King

How I see the SAMR Model - Allanah King | Mobile Technologies and Literacy | Scoop.it

"Everyone is talking about the SAMR model for eLearning.

A principal emailed me this week wanting to know more about the concept so I emailed her with a reply but thought it may be useful to add my thoughts more publicly too.

The SAMR model is based on the thinkings of Ruben Puentedura.

In a nutshell here is how I see what the SAMR letters stand for.

S- Substitution- would be you just used an iPad as a flash sort of text book for the kids to read and copy from.

A- Augmentation- you might have the text book read to you via Speech Selection so that is moving things up a notch.

M- Modification- You might make your own book using Book Creator that includes graphics, audio, video and hyperlinks etc

R- Redefinition- You might have students all collaborating making pages for a Book Creator including graphics, audio, video and hyperlinks etc and combining them in one book which you then publish it on iTunes."

Maria Persson's curator insight, September 12, 2013 5:56 PM

I find the most fascinating part of this model is the M-modification which is not just changing an old paper ducument and digitalizing it - it is turning the document into a learning tool that barely resembles the original...room for creativity and reflection and perhaps collaboration with others.  Allanah - nice work with presentaion using 'Explain Everything' app :-)
