Why Matt Cutts Is Wrong About Responsive Web Design

Why Matt Cutts Is Wrong About Responsive Web Design | Mobile Marketing | News Updates | Scoop.it
Like most white hat SEOs in our industry, I respect and appreciate what Matt Cutts has done for SEO.
Level343's insight:

Is Responsive Web Design Detrimental To SEO?

If you haven’t seen the video, Matt was asked if responsive Web design could be detrimental to SEO and in his response focused only on one issue: split link equity with mobile URLs.

To his credit, he did mention that mobile URLs are a valid way of serving mobile searchers, and that the split link equity that has been discussed is only hypothetical, and only possible if users don’t employ workarounds; however, he didn’t mention anything about the issues that myself and many other SEOs have mentioned as legitimate reasons why responsive Web design might not be the best solution for all businesses.

Supermarkets Warm Up to Mobile Commerce. Finally.

Supermarkets Warm Up to Mobile Commerce. Finally. | Mobile Marketing | News Updates | Scoop.it

I love grocery shopping. Not only do I love the process of figuring out what I’m in the mood to cook, food is probably the only thing I’m really obsessive about. I hate to run out of the things we use and need on a regular basis, so I’m at the market several days a week. But there’s always something I need that I manage to forget while I’m there. Which is why supermarkets focused on redefining the local grocer and making a move to mobile commerce makes me happy.

Level343's insight:

Does your local store offer online shopping yet? If so, have you tried it out? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this and what you see happening in your markets.

Level343's insight:

‘Tis the season to reorganize the apps on my iPhone. With iOS 7 and the shift from spotlight search to swipe-down-to-search for apps, I’ve noticed my app behavior has changed a bit, as it’s become easier to search for apps with the new UI and therefore less important where the app is located on my phone. For instance, the Amazon app is buried in my Shopping folder (on my second page of apps), but if I need the app, I just swipe down to search.

Mobile Marketing Strategy

Mobile Marketing Strategy | Mobile Marketing | News Updates | Scoop.it
Do you have a mobile marketing strategy in place? If not, why don't you? Here are some interesting facts that suggest why you should implement one today:
Level343's insight:

There’s a Reason “Responsive” Is the Buzzword of 2013

Responsive design is increasingly becoming the go-to solution for businesses seeking site optimization across the mobile board without entering the daunting world of developing a full-fledged app for each device.

The need for a responsive site depends upon your specific business or website, as well as budget. It may well be worth it to “go responsive” if your site is heavy on visuals, videos, products or “m-commerce” — and mobile traffic analysis can help you make these tough decisions. On which devices are users accessing your site? Which operating systems are the most common among your site traffic? Are more users visiting your site on smartphones, or on tablets? What is the overall ratio of mobile to desktop traffic? You can glean much of this information through analytics software or programs.

The Great Smartphone Debate

The Great Smartphone Debate | Mobile Marketing | News Updates | Scoop.it
Once limited to the early BlackBerry used by business professionals, smartphones are now for everyone, unchaining us from our desks and allowing more mobility in our lives.
Level343's insight:

AN ONGOING BATTLE FOR MARKET SHARE

So which companies are taking the biggest share of this emerging market? In the second quarter of 2013, Samsung was the single most successful smartphone vendor, yet they still held only a third of the market at 31.7%. Apple came in second at 14.2% – a one-tenth increase from a year ago.

These two major players still add up to less than half of the market; the biggest piece of the pie is taken by the “others” such as HTC, Nokia, and BlackBerry. The picture that emerges is one of an incredibly diverse field where major vendors continue to loom, even as most of the market goes to the underdogs. Big or small, they'll all have the chance to prove themselves: This quarter, the biggest yet for smartphones, saw 225 million smartphones sold – 1,700 every single minute.

GOOGLE'S ANDROID IS FAR AND AWAY THE MOST POPULAR, USED BY A MASSIVE 79% OF PHONES.

Start-up mobile software vendors are trying to offer a second path to business — developer tools to rapidly port code and ease cross-platform support with code templates and code deployment tools.
