Linda Alexander's insight: Great list!

Every single teacher is concerned about his/ her teaching practices and the skills involved in this process. How many times have you wondered about a better way to teach the same lesson you have delivered to an eariler class? How often have you used technology to engage your students and improve their learning ? These are some recurring questions we keep regurgitating each time our teaching skills are put to the test.

Google puts pressure on Microsoft, launches Quickoffice for iPhone and Android | Mobile Learning in Higher Education | Scoop.it

Google launched its Microsoft Office substitute, Quickoffice, for Apple’s iPhone, Android smartphones and Android tablets, fulfilling a promise made in December.

The release on Tuesday follows the launch of Quickoffice for Apple’s iPad late last year, when a Google executive said that iPhone and Android versions “are on the way.” The move was also preceded by a February announcement that Google was baking the Quickoffice technology into both its Chrome browser and Chrome OS.

Why Mobile Learning Is Inevitable - Edudemic

Why Mobile Learning Is Inevitable - Edudemic | Mobile Learning in Higher Education | Scoop.it

Mobile learning is not only on the rise, it’s inevitable.

As you can see in the presentation below (there’s just 24 slides, pretty easy to scroll through and worth it!) the number of smartphones being sold is soaring while other hardware (desktops, for example) are slumping. That might be why I’m not expecting any majorly exciting things out of next week’s WWDC announcement(s) by Apple. They’re expected to show off new Macbooks and perhaps an internet radio service.

"BYOD policies–Bring Your Own Device–allow schools to bring technology into the classroom with a “bottom-up” approach. Such an approach can save money, allow students to use their own devices, and encourage a student-centered approach to learning."

Alan Ovens's comment, April 4, 7:18 PM
I like this concept and prevents particular companies from monopolizing the educational landscape and limiting student options. Apple seems to dominate classroom space, although increasingly Android is the choice of young people. BYOD allows the relative strengths of each platform (and device) to benefit the learning opportunities available in the classroom and not just the commercial interests of some multinational company.
Ralph Springett's curator insight, April 5, 9:40 PM

So students and faculty like the idea of BYOD. The trick will be to manage BYOD so students get an equivalent learning experience.

Harvey Chambers's curator insight, April 13, 11:02 PM

Read this and consider trying JUST 1 in your classroom over the next three weeks.  Assess the pros and cons and determine whether what you used has value for future use.  If not, try another and do the same.  You'll be surprised at how beneficial the attempts are including technologies in your class will be.
