This is quite an expensive app (£19.99) and I haven't purchased it yet. I looks useful, though. There are many apps that will read text back to you, but the addition of the integrated feature of being able to get suggested words and check the spelling/meaning with audio could be helpful. I'm hoping someone has purchased it and can let me know if it's worth it!
One reason for lecturers not responding to their everyday experience is, I believe, their ignorance of alternatives. If you can't imagine what else you might do than lecture, then it hardly matters what your everyday experience is telling you. Lecturing is taken for granted. Courses are designed around lecture topics. Knowledge is packaged in our heads in one-hour-lecture-sized chunks. Why is this?
Not about mobile learning, but even when we start to design an online course we tend to think in terms of lecture-type input first, even though the input may be some kind of online reading material, or (quite commonly) a video of a lecture. The ideas here are pertinent, therefore, in the preparation for syllabus design both for face to face and online.

A new wave of e-textbooks is giving students more than just words and a few hotlinks on a digital page. Publishers over the last few years have been adding video, interactive maps and gamified quizzes designed to engage students more deeply in their learning.
The new features will begin rolling out July 8 with the ability for teachers to create and manage previously uploaded lessons directly from the iPad. Apple says the course creation features will let teachers grab content from iWork, iBooks Author or “any of the over 75,000 educational apps available for iPad.” It will also let teachers use the iPad’s camera to include shots and video of real-world items in courses. The course creation feature will be available to educators in all 69 with the materials they create distributed in up 155 countries.

The idea of speed reading has been around for decades, but there's been an explosion of speed-reading apps lately that promise to get you reading up to 400, 600, even 1,000 words per minute. But is it worth it? Are you really doing yourself a favor by blasting through e-mails at top speed?
insights and practical Moodle is a magnificent free product and has the potential to enable schools and teachers to build wonderfully unique interactive online learning courses in which learner interaction can be tracked, measured and responded to. Despite this the vast majority of Moodle courses I see are a long list of Word and PDF documents with at best a few forums that enable a minimum of human social interaction.
Oxford, Oxfordshire (PRWEB UK) 9 July 2014 -- Oxford University Press has collaborated with Microsoft to make its enhanced e-books solution, Oxford Learner’s Bookshelf, available through Office 365, a SharePoint app. The app transforms Oxford’s coursebooks and Readers for learning English into smart digital books with a balance of interactivity that encourages students to study independently at home, and tools that help teachers to engage students in the classroom.
A very interesting development from Oxford University Press. If you want to use the books on your iPad, it seems you have to first download the "Oxford Learning Bookshelf" app (free: https://itunes.apple.com/app/oxfordlearnersbookshelf/id617832312) and then within in the app you can get the books. Some books appear to be available only for institutions, and as yet I can't find a way to be able to evaluate them.
Many students with weak decoding skills can read: with their ears. As teachers, we can make a strategic choice of differentiating in our lessons in order to allow a poor reader to ‘read with their ears’ in class until the time they can read with their eyes. As long as this occurs alongside additional intervention to address their decoding difficulties, we may be improving his or her life chances by providing this opportunity.

Over 12 years ago, as Todd Curtis and his teaching partner tried to get all of their eighth graders engaged in class discussions, they noticed a trend. Though students talked freely outside of class, they became silent in class. As an experiment, they jury-rigged their email system into a backchannel.
UNESCO is currently investigating how access to text can be improved through the use of technology, specifically basic mobile phones. Today mobile phones are common in areas where books are scarce. The United Nations estimates that 6 billion people have access to a connected mobile device of some sort, while only 4.5 billion have access to a toilet.
“We can’t turn back,” Wolf said. “We should be simultaneously reading to children from books, giving them print, helping them learn this slower mode, and at the same time steadily increasing their immersion into the technological, digital age. It’s both. We have to ask the question: What do we want to preserve?”
