State of the mobile industry.. tablets

State of the mobile industry.. tablets | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

In the past year, the tablet market has taken an entirely new direction. We’re now seeing devices with great specs at bottom dwelling prices. With so many tablets on the market, sometimes we’re left to wonder why and how there are so many, and which is best. It seems just about everyone makes at least a passing attempt at selling us a tablet, running anything from Blackberry to Windows. It’s a relatively new market with a lot of upside and almost fever-pitch hype driving it. The tablet is the new darling of the tech world.

iPad Mini.. Verizon 4G review

iPad Mini.. Verizon 4G review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"One of the takeaways from our iPad mini review was quite how travel-friendly the smaller tablet proved to be in comparison to the full-sized version. The 9.7-inch iPad has grown progressively slimmer across its generations, but the 7.9-inch form factor has bag-friendly advantages in its narrower width and shorter length. The fact that it’s so easily used one-handed makes it a more direct alternative to a Kindle or NOOK for ebook reading, too. While the WiFi-only model’s design begged to be included in your bag or purse, the 4G version finally has the flexibility to match."

Apple iPad 4 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"How well does the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 fare against the freshly released Apple iPad 4?

If the comments section is any indication, many of our readers seem to believe that Apple vs Samsung topics are a bit cliche nowadays. However, the fact remains that these two companies make some excellent mobile devices, not to mention that they are the only manufacturers to turn a meaningful profit recently."

ASUS PadFone three-in-one: jack of all trades, master of none? | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"When it comes to convergence, you already know that all manner of gadgets have been subsumed into others, often through the magic of digital, and now yet another phone-cum-tablet-cum-laptop computer has come.

Would you like a smartphone that can turn into a tablet, or a laptop computer? This concept first came to mainstream prominence with the Motorola Atrix, despite claims on the Internet from some who earlier spoke of a clamshell laptop you could plug your iPhone into."

Nexus 7: The Full Australian Review

Nexus 7: The Full Australian Review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"The Nexus 7, despite being put together from a hardware perspective by Asus, is Google’s first foray into a Nexus tablet. The Nexus line — for the uninitiated — is intended to be a “pure Google” experience with none of the manufactures crapware slowing it down. To see that design ethos applied to a tablet is very exciting."

SmartQ Launches X7 Tablet.. a Nexus 7 "killer" with a lot of oomph

SmartQ Launches X7 Tablet.. a Nexus 7 "killer" with a lot of oomph | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

SmartQ has released the X7 tablet for just $249.

"If there’s anyone interested, the tab is called the SmartQ X7 and is now up for grabs for just $249. It’s true, the X7 doesn’t come from Google or any other big name in the tech industry, but it’s not like we’ve never seen a decent gadget coming from China in general and SmartQ in particular.

The X7 has a few common points with the Nexus 7, sporting basically the same 7-inch capacitive touch screen with a 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. Both tabs also run Jelly Bean, though the Nexus 7 has recently taken the leap to Android 4.2, while the X7 is for the moment stuck to 4.1."

Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD.. review

Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD.. review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"If it were ever time for another Android tablet with a thin frame and a 10.1-inch display, it’s now, and it’s Huawei who’s bringing this device into the world. Huawei makes a valiant effort at creating a tablet with the MediaPad 10 FHD, and it does indeed bring on an impressive package, especially for media playback. If you’re looking for the most massively impressive tablet on the market – this isn’t it – but if you do have this device on your radar and wonder if it’s worth the cash."

Modbook Pro OS X Mountain Lion tablet launches with SSD | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"It’s time to get your MacBook Pro action on with a modified tablet design from Modbook Pro, announced today once again in a 13.3-inch iteration for release on October 3rd. The folks at Modbook have a strange situation on their hands, one where they’re somehow or another able to side-step the lock-out that exists around Apple’s OS X and create tablet computers that are, essentially, MacBook Pro units without the keyboard and a touchscreen up front. Today’s announcement also adds an SSD to the mix for you hardcore solid-state lovers."

RIM’s problems aside, its new PlayBook 4G LTE is a great tablet.. review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it
The PlayBook 4G LTE is an advance on other tablets in certain respects, and is equal to most of the others, and it can easily hold its head up with its current competitors...

"The PlayBook 4G LTE looks and runs like the original Playbook — it’s the same size as the original and operates in much the same way, and uses the same QNX operating system (now called PlayBook OS). There is only one external giveaway that this is the second-generation model: a tiny drawer for the device carrier’s SIM card, which is what allows the PlayBook to talk to data networks via high-speed HSPA and LTE networks."
