Nokia Lumia 1520 first-impressions.. Windows Phone goes big | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"You asked for a big Windows Phone, and Nokia is delivering just that with the Lumia 1520. Headed to AT&T imminently, the 6-inch phablet not only bears the biggest screen on a recent Nokia, but the fastest processor ever inside a Windows Phone, the highest display resolution, and what’s arguably the most rational compromise of camera quality in the company’s well-esteemed PureView system."

Huawei Ascend Mate.. review

Huawei Ascend Mate.. review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"As much as we dislike the term, phones like the Huawei Ascend Mate are the reason people say the word “phablet.” With a 6.1 inch display and high-midrange specs and performance, the Mate definitely bridges the gap between large phones and small tablets.

While this type of device is popular among Android enthusiasts and gadget geeks, is the Ascend Mate enough to help Huawei break into a market currently dominated by Samsung and LG?"

Part of the Acer Liquid S1′s full list of features are a 1.5GHz quad-core CPU, an 8-megapixel rear camera, DTS Studio Sound, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. HTC Droid DNA vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"Which is better: the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or the HTC Droid DNA!

Although the definition of a phablet is a bit blurry these days, it goes without saying that both these Android handsets tend to roughly the same consumer base: people who want an Android smartphone with a screen considerably bigger than that of the rest of the Android pack."

Nokia Lumia 1520 hands-on

Nokia Lumia 1520 hands-on | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"Nokia’s new flagship Lumia 1520 is big news and a big phone. The company’s first “phablet” Windows Phone, it marks the debut of official 1080p screen support in version 8.1 of Microsoft’s platform, not to mention a further distillation of Nokia’s investment into PureView camera technology down into the mass market. It’s also the device that Nokia hopes will rival top-tier iPhone and Android handsets that, so far, it has struggled to compete with."

LG Optimus G Pro review.. phone-tablets are here to stay | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"Phones keep getting bigger, and LG is playing the game like everybody else. Following in the footsteps of competitors like Samsung and HTC, LG announced the Optimus G Pro last month, a smartphone-tablet hybrid device with a 5.5-inch screen and a 1080p display. It’s certainly larger than its predecessor, the Optimus G, but its screen size isn't the only thing that's been beefed up."

Lava Mobile offers budget XOLO A1000 5-inch Android phablet

Lava Mobile offers budget XOLO A1000 5-inch Android phablet | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"Too often, choosing a budget-friendly device involves settling with a small, under-powered handset with lackluster specs and an old version of Android. Fortunately, that is slowly changing, with more mid-range handsets hitting the market with a reasonable price tag. One such handset is Lava Mobile’s XOLO A1000, a 5-inch Android smartphone that has all-around nice specs with a low price tag of $259 USD."

Lenovo IdeaPhone K900 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Lenovo IdeaPhone K900 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"Once upon a time, with only smartphones and tablets being the main dwellers, the Android universe was a much simpler place to be in. Then the Samsung Galaxy Note happened, a device quite out of the ordinary at that time that the term phablet – a play on the words phone and tablet — had to be created.

Fast forward to 2013, it seems people will no longer bat an eyelid when John or Jane whips out a 5-inch plus “phone” out of their pocket or bag."

The LG Intuition Review.. size does matter

The LG Intuition Review.. size does matter | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"The LG Intuition is big. Some (myself included) would call it too big—ungracefully straddling the line between phone and tablet and doing a poor job of satisfying either niche. But the phone-tablet ("phablet") phenomenon marches on, particularly in light of the success Samsung has seen with its Galaxy Note device. The Intuition hits all of the right notes, offering a speedy processor, high-resolution display, 4G LTE speeds, and some NFC capabilities, but unfortunate design decisions make this a tough device to recommend."

LG Optimus Vu II arrives to battle Galaxy Note II

LG Optimus Vu II arrives to battle Galaxy Note II | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"The fight of the phablets continues, with LG rolling out the new Optimus Vu II to take on Samsung’s second-gen Galaxy Note II. The 5-inch Vu II keeps the unusual 4:3 aspect ratio of the original Vu – which we reviewed in Verizon LG Intuition form - but slims the bezels to make a phone that’s 7mm shorter and 5mm wider; there’s also VoLTE for voice calls over 4G in addition to high-speed data, and a new, second-gen “Rubberdium Pen 2.0″ stylus."
