Huawei Ascend Mate.. review

Huawei Ascend Mate.. review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"As much as we dislike the term, phones like the Huawei Ascend Mate are the reason people say the word “phablet.” With a 6.1 inch display and high-midrange specs and performance, the Mate definitely bridges the gap between large phones and small tablets.

While this type of device is popular among Android enthusiasts and gadget geeks, is the Ascend Mate enough to help Huawei break into a market currently dominated by Samsung and LG?"

Acer Aspire R7.. the unique abilities review

Acer Aspire R7.. the unique abilities review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"The Acer machine you’re about to see is rather unique – it’s got what the group calls an “Ezel” hinge, made to expand the units abilities beyond that of the average notebook or desktop. Here we’re using Windows 8 in combination with Acer’s hardware to add another chapter to the unofficial List of Touchscreen Computer Configurations, this time with a display that moves up, folds back, and becomes nearly flat, lifts up and sits vertical or horizontal, and in one particular setup looks strikingly similar to the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek.

The Galaxy S4 Family.. do you know them?

The Galaxy S4 Family.. do you know them? | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"What started off as a single flagship device has quickly expanded into one happy family full of Galaxy S4 branded devices.

Now there there are five different members to the S4 family, how do you know which one is right for you? In the end, it all comes down to the features you want or need. Some folks love stock Android, some don’t. Others need a waterproof device, or maybe they are looking for a phone with a killer camera.

To get a better understanding of how each of the S4 siblings differ, let’s start by comparing..."

BlackBerry Q10.. the Verizon review

BlackBerry Q10.. the Verizon review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"BlackBerry’s rolling the dice this year, with a complete overhaul of their operating system and releasing all new devices. We’ve taken a look at both the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 in full, with the latter being a 2013 version of a classic BlackBerry device that we’ve grown to know. All four major carriers have signed on to offer the Q10, and we’ve decided to take a look at Verizon’s variant to see what the device offers on Big Red."

Sony Xperia L.. mid-range, review

Sony Xperia L.. mid-range, review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"There are a lot of mid-range phones out there, and most of them are fairly average looking. Yes, they work and they don’t look awful, but they aren’t particularly eye catching, either. Enter the Sony Xperia L.

Unlike many midrange phones, the Sony Xperia L comes in a stylish package. Is this enough to help it stand out from the competition?"

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is on Its Way

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is on Its Way | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"Samsung’s S4 has defined the boundaries of a perfect smartphone. It even embraces the tagline “a lifetime companion” fully. The S4 mini was created closely resembling the S4. Looking at the outside appearance (despite the difference in screen and size), the S4 mini has all the major components the S4 possesses. According to J.K. Shin, President and CEO of Samsung’s mobile division, they want to give more choices to the people with the Galaxy S4 mini. He also added that the S4 mini is created to deliver the same experience as the S4, only with a more compact experience."

HTC One Google Edition.. what you gain and what you lose | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"Next month Google will be releasing two new “Google Edition” smartphones that carry their original brand names, the HTC One and the Samsung GALAXY S 4. As the draw to these devices here in 2013 is based at least in part to the hardware manufacturers’ own software editions and modifications, Google’s releases come with both positive and negative values to them compared to their carrier or “Developer” editions. As the HTC One with “Nexus user experience” is introduced this week, we’ve taken a look at what users will gain – and what they’ll lose."

HP Pavilion 14 Chromebook.. review

HP Pavilion 14 Chromebook.. review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"HP has officially entered into the Chromebook market with their new $329 Pavilion 14 Chromebook. As a laptop, it doesn’t deviate too far from HP standards, and it still sports the same curves and style that you’d expect out of a laptop from the company. Plus, despite being a Chromebook, it feels more like a traditional Windows laptop with it’s fairly spacious keyboard and trackpad, along with the 14-inch display. However, looks aren’t everything, and it’s the internal hardware and performance that can make or break a notebook."

Sony XPERIA ZL.. review

Sony XPERIA ZL.. review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"With the Sony XPERIA ZL, the company took a double-tiered approach to a hero smartphone release – unlike what Samsung and HTC have done with their HTC One and GALAXY S 4, Sony has created a machine that’s got the same innards as the XPERIA Z, but with a body that’s almost like an alternate reality iteration. Here with the XPERIA ZL, Sony has taken the display, the software, the processor, and the camera technology from the XPERIA Z, putting it in a body that’s both more rugged and thinner than the hero."

"Now that Verizon has its own Nokia hero smartphone working with Windows Phone 8, it’s high time the platform takes off, isn’t it? At the moment, the Nokia Lumia 928 is one of the nicer Windows Phone 8 devices on the market, and if it weren’t for the release of the Nokia Lumia 925 (having been revealed this month right on top of the 928), it’d be an easy thing to say that this is Nokia’s finest effort to date with this OS."

Nokia Lumia 925.. a third flagship review

Nokia Lumia 925.. a third flagship review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"Nokia is on a roll with Windows Phone 8 – when it comes to filling out its range, anyway. The Finnish company has spent 2013 slotting a Lumia into almost every possible gap in the market, and now has a third flagship-spec model in the shape of the Nokia Lumia 925. The latest to bear PureView branding, and arguably the best-quality handset running Microsoft’s platform that we’ve seen to-date, the Lumia 925 ticks all the boxes on paper, certainly. Is this the smartphone to sign two years of your cellular life away to?

11 Best Android smartphones running stock Android

11 Best Android smartphones running stock Android | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"Not all Android smartphones are created equal. And yet most of the very best models that have ever come out have one common ingredient: the stock Android operating system. Indeed, many of today’s greatest Android phones have been made available with nothing more than the bare bones version of Google’s famed mobile OS. To some users, it’s like the secret sauce. And Google, along with today’s many different Android OEMs, is just all too glad to fulfill the demand."

HTC M4 vs HTC One.. wait for Verizon, or wait even longer?

HTC M4 vs HTC One.. wait for Verizon, or wait even longer? | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"As the HTC One is confirmed for Verizon here in the United States, so too has an “HTC One Mini” been all but confirmed by a set of leaked up-close photos. These photos are either the work of a hardwaretester or an extremely dedicated mock-up artist – as we’re inclined to believe the former, it’s become apparent that a new choice must be made for those waiting for their favorite amalgamation of HTC and Android. Should you pick up an HTC One now, or does it make more sense to wait for the ever-so-slightly smaller HTC M4?"

"Acer is venturing into new device territory with the announcement of its latest Android-powered smartphone called the Liquid S1. It’s the Taiwan-based company’s first proper “phablet” in that it features a 5.7-inch 720p HD touchscreen display. Between that and its attractive exterior, it’s sure to get a lot of attention when it finally comes out. But will it really impress?

Part of the Acer Liquid S1′s full list of features are a 1.5GHz quad-core CPU, an 8-megapixel rear camera, DTS Studio Sound, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. And according to the official press release, it will have “a day’s worth” of battery life. Plus, it also includes several nifty software features."

HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Notebook.. review | Mobile IT | Scoop.it

"We have recently spent some time working (and playing) with the HP Spectre XT TouchSmart notebook computer. Specifically, we have been using the 15-4010nr Ultrabook model. This is a Windows 8 machine and it happens to be sporting a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS display and as implied by the TouchSmart in the name — this one is a touchscreen notebook. The notebook looks good, feels solid and has specs to match. Of course, on the flip side of that, the HP Spectre XT TouchSmart isn’t the lowest priced notebook on the market."

With Acer’s “Ezel” hinge, the Aspire R7 can take on several shapes – including that of the Kirk-captained Enterprise."
