One the one hand, deep integration of new learning technologies into classrooms requires substantially rethinking pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, and teacher practice (someday). For technology to make a real difference in student learning, it can’t just be an add-on. On the other hand, teachers need to start somewhere (Monday), and one of the easiest ways for teachers to get experience with emerging tools is to play and experiment in lightweight ways: to use technology as an add-on. Teachers need to imagine a new future—to build towards Someday—and teachers also need new activities and strategies to try out on Monday. Undoubtedly, everyone understands the importance of projectors and PowerPoint presentation in the classrooms, but this time, all these stuffs seem little obsolete. As the modern technology advances, the format of classrooms are also changing.

When I taught, we had a row of computers at the back of the room and class sets of graphing calcs. The opportunities for education today, given the access to information and personal learning capabilities, are amazing. Med Kharback: I just got this poster from a fellow teacher featuring the 6 thinking skills as outlined in the revised taxonomy. As you probably know, Blooms taxonomy that was first created in the 1950s has been revised by Krathwohl and there are two main changes that appeared in this revised taxonomy: the first one is semantic in that nouns are now being replaced with verbs; and the second change relates to the order of these thinking skills. In the old taxonomy, Bloom highlighted the importance of evaluating and therefore placed it at the top of the thinking continuum, but for Krathwohl Creating is the highest order thinking skill. I do question how they will be addressed in line with assessment and traditional methods of documenting accomplishment and competency. I like Patrick's statement that you can have an effective teacher with our without technology. I particularly agree that while you may get some positive changes by just dropping technology into the hands of a motivated teacher, the real gains require support for teachers that include professional development and COLLABORATIVE EXPERIENCES where teachers can share ideas and practices with peers. Patrick is a very online-connected educator from what I've seen from him and about him in the past so I'm not surprised he advocates a culture of of professional sharing. Of course, I suspect those experiences have assisted his professional success and helped him assist others as an administrator so they shouldn't just be discounted as coming from some guy who likes to do things online.
