From mobile embracers to info seekers, audiences use mobile for different reasons.

The mobile audience is not homogeneous, according to November 2015 research. And the way different groups rely on their mobile devices translates to different attitudes toward ads—and apps.Using regression analysis, GfK identified five distinct groups of mobile consumers—groupings that were based more on behaviors than psychographics or life stages. Mobile fundamentals and mobile embracers each represent about a quarter of the mobile population, and make up the largest groups. The embracers live their lives on mobile—but the fundamentals are not always comfortable with a smartphone.

Smartphones are driving mcommerce sales growth as tablets’ share shrinks.

Next year will mark a milestone for US ecommerce, as more than half of digital buyers in the country will use a smartphone to complete a purchase during 2017. According to eMarketer’s latest forecast, 95.1 million Americans ages 14 and older, or 51.2% of digital buyers, will make at least one purchase via a smartphone.
