They will be asked to provide their email addresses in the event that they win one of the ten $50.00 Amazon.com gift certificates. Participants may also provide their email addresses, if they wish to be contacted about future studies. All data will be entirely anonymous, and will be kept confidential by this investigator. Email addresses will be kept separately from survey responses. Should you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me at multiracialwomenstudy@gmail.com. 13,000 year old North American spear point

13,000 year old North American spear point | Mixed American Life | Scoop.it

Indigenous Native Americans migrated in from Asia 13,000 years ago.

"The first clear evidence of human activity in North America are spear heads like this. They are called Clovis points. These spear tips were used to hunt large game. The period of the Clovis people coincides with the extinction of mammoths, giant sloth, camels and giant bison in North America. The extinction of these animals was caused by a combination of human hunting and climate change.

How did humans reach America?

North America was one of the last continents in the world to be settled by humans after about 15,000 BC. During the last Ice Age, water, which previously flowed off the land into the sea, was frozen up in vast ice sheets and glaciers so sea levels dropped. This exposed a land bridge that enabled humans to migrate through Siberia to Alaska. These early Americans were highly adaptable and Clovis points have been found throughout North America."

Native Americans in the U.S. now make up less than 1% of the population #2010census
Community Village Sites's comment, May 16, 2012 3:28 PM
"It’s impossible for me not to think of these people as all very young. I mean that’s just the way it seems to be with Stone Age people that they don’t live very long lives, and it has even been suggested that many of these Clovis points were made by teenagers – young men or women on the move, old enough to reproduce, old enough to explore and very switched on as hunter-gatherers." -Gary Haynes, Archaeologist, University of Nevada

Modern teenagers get into trouble because they have no real responsibilities. No job, no kids, no family (of their own making), no possessions (of their own earnings), no payments. So they explore and experiment with risk taking since they have nothing to loose.

Maya & Chino for AB 2356

Meet Maya and Chino, two parents who were legally denied equal access to fertility healthcare, simply because they are a same-sex couples. What began as a joyful experience of expanding their family turned into a painful experience of discrimination.

We have an opportunity to right this wrong. Assembly Bill 2356, sponsored by Equality California, will ensure that same-sex couples using a known donor can access fertility services on the same terms as other committed couples and put the joy of having a child within the reach of all loving families.

Dr. Drew: 'Wear sunscreen' | Mixed American Life | Scoop.it

The elephant in the room on this story is that some white peoople don't want to look white. The question is why?

It's also interesting how natural color skin looks good - regardless of phenotype - but artificial tans don't look good.

She really looks like she baked herself in an oven. A burnt turkey.

I have never understood why so many white folks look down on brown-skinned people yet spend tons of money on visits to tanning salons and artificial bronzers. They risk having a slow and painful death due to skin cancer in order to get browner skin. How is it that most white people (clearly not the woman in this picture!) who look brown due to artificial means or tanning beds are considered to look "healthier," "happier," or "more active;" while people who are born with brown skin are "lazy"? It makes no sense.

Marcia Dawkins Author of Clearly Invisible Racial Passing

Marcia Dawkins Author of Clearly Invisible Racial Passing | Mixed American Life | Scoop.it

"Marcia Dawkins' book, Clearly Invisible (Baylor University Press, 2012), is the first to connect racial passing and classical rhetoric to issues of disability, gender-neutral parenting, human trafficking, hacktivism, identity theft, racial privacy, media typecasting and violent extremism.

By applying fresh eyes to landmark historical cases and benchmark popular culture moments in the history of passing Dawkins also rethinks the representational character and civic purpose of multiracial identities. In the process she provides powerful insights called "passwords" that help readers tackle the tough questions of who we are and how we can relate to one another and the world."
