TV station KMOV, Channel 4, visited Northwest High School.  Rhonda is teaching Discovery Education Steaming Plus in the video segment.  Kim Hornkohl, the middle school librarian for the district did a super nice job during her interview. Glen House, social studies teacher, shared his Facebook project we collaborated on a few years ago. Glen's Infographic projects were the cool presentation I shared at ISTE 2013.  Check out his lessons using Easel.ly and his students' work.  During the video taping by KMOV, Linda Dougherty was teaching away while the reporter talks!

Warrensburg – Patricia Antrim, chair of the Department of Education Leadership and Human Development and coordinator of the Library Science and Information Services program at the University of Central Missouri, was named the recipient of the Special Service Award from the Missouri Association of School Librarians, Tuesday.

In addition to her duties as department chair and program coordinator, she also has been active with MASL, serving as president and member of the organization’s board of directors.

Antrim has been active in the American Library Association, American Association of School Librarians, and Young Adult Library Services Association.

While living in Savannah, the county school superintendent suggested she become a school librarian. Nadine embraced the opportunity, first in Savannah and later in University City and Knob Noster. The University of Central Missouri Children’s Literature Conference was always a highlight of her year

Thursday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. Attendees will learn about Renaissance Home Connect, Accelerated Reader STAR testing and Destiny Quest, the online library catalog. There will be game rooms in the hall next to the cafeteria. Parents can play with their children from 6-6:30 p.m. before joining Wyman School librarian Frances Cox for the AR meting in the cafeteria from 6:30-7 p.m. This event is sponsored by Title I resource labs.

North Callaway School Board hears track options

Most of Thursday night’s North Callaway School Board meeting was devoted to one topic: options for building the new all-weather track included in the district’s recently-passed $6 million bond issue.

State Farm presents check to CHS

The $25,000 Celebrate My Drive ® grant check was presented to California R-I High School before the start of a varsity Pinto boys basketball game against Dixon High School Tuesday, Dec. 9. The check was presented by Paul Bloch, Brian Schmidt and Tammy Korte of the California State Farm Insurance Agency to a group of students and teachers representing the large number involved in the effort to win the national competition, including organizer Librarian Janet Henley. Rep. David Wood was also on hand for the presentation. CHS placed in the top 50 among high schools across North America in the online contest. California won by securing safe-driving commitments (votes) through the Celebrate My Drive ® program created by State Farm. There were 100 schools eligible to receive a grant ranging from $25,000 to $100,000. Nearly 3,300 schools participated in the U.S. and Canada. Including California, 1,659 competed in the small schools category.

 “Celebrate My Drive” is a safe driving campaign centered on teaching drivers safe driving tips. “Two hands on the wheel and two eyes on the road” is the central focus. This contest is sponsored by State Farm Insurance. The students presented a video they made, handouts and copies of the video to share. From Oct. 15-24 each person is being asked to log in to www.celebratemydrive.com and choose California, MO High School, answer two questions, and check the box to commit to safe driving.

About 800 dogs brought their owners to Brookside Sunday for the annual Wayside Waifs Strutt With Your Mutt fundraiser. Roughly 1,300 dog lovers hoped to generate revenue for the south Kansas City animal shelter, whose officials have been organizing the event for 24 years.
