Can You Gamify Content Curation? New Startup Woisio Thinks So | GigaOM

Can You Gamify Content Curation? New Startup Woisio Thinks So | GigaOM | Misc Techno | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article on GigaOM:

"Many video curation startups do away with the old-fashioned programming guide to help users find TV shows and online clips. Turkey-based Woisio, which launching its private beta Monday, takes a little bit of a different approach: it keeps the guide – but gets rid of the programmers. Woisio wants to instead use game mechanics and collaborative filtering to compile a new set of channels, and in turn get rid of the traditional middlemen.

Here’s how Woisio works: The platform offers viewers a number of different channels, called stages, including comedy, style , music, politics and so on. Each of these channels is programmed to show clips at a certain time, but users can skip forward or go back and catch up on past programming.

Videos can be up- and downvoted, much like stories on Reddit.

The votes translate to a virtual currency, which the publisher of a video can then use to bid on future air time for other clips. The basic idea behind this: Publishers get rewarded for popular content, and programming becomes a bit of a marketplace. Think virtual stock exchange, but for content curation..."

The complete guide to Twitter’s language and acronyms

The beauty and challenge of Twitter is stuffing your most sophisticated thoughts and feelings into a measly 140 characters (or less). Unfortunately, our traditional methods of communication have proven to be a poor training ground for micro-messaging, and even the most savvy platform users have sighed in exasperation as those bright red negative character signs mock our basic intelligence. But, perhaps even worse, no good tweet is ever going to be 140 characters because it’s impossible to share, respond or reference a tweet that’s already at it’s max. If you want to make a big statement with a small message, you have to trim the fat.Thankfully, a special subset of finite abbreviations and techniques have cropped up to help optimize your own Twitter lingo.

How Long Before You Will Scoop.it Instead of Google It?

How Long Before You Will Scoop.it Instead of Google It? | Misc Techno | Scoop.it

"Services like Scoop.it depend on a community of millions of hardworking experts who wonder what to do with the wealth of knowledge and wisdom they have accumulated in life and are happy to share it."

Written by blogger Shred Pillai on the Huffington Post, this vibrant praise of Social Curation in general and Scoop.it in particular, points out the changes we're seeing in the way we look for information. From basic search, we now look more and more for meaning and context from human experts.

Beyond information, we want knowledge.

And this is what Curation is all about.

As he concludes: "At the end of the day, Scoop.it, which is free, is the right answer for information seekers and providers as well as the experts who like to show off their expertise."

New Content Curation Tool: RebelMouse

New Content Curation Tool: RebelMouse | Misc Techno | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article on Poynter.:

"The new Web service uses the links and photos you share on Twitter or Facebook to populate a Web page.

For an individual journalist, RebelMouse can build a website that harnesses all your social media curation work into a Web product.

For a news organization, RebelMouse could also be a tool for aggregation projects. One page could represent all the content your news staff is tweeting. Another one could pull in content from a hashtag for a crowdsourcing project.

Visually, RebelMouse looks a lot like Pinterest. Functionally, it is in the same product space as Storify, but different in key ways:

- More permanence;

- More automation;

- No embedding, yet.

Pricing is extremely affordable — free for basic usage, and if you want to use the site at a custom domain name (instead of rebelmouse.com/username) it’s $3 a month for an individual or $3 a week for a company."

The Official Content Curation Tools Universe Map

The Official Content Curation Tools Universe Map | Misc Techno | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Everytime I see a new post or article claiming to list the best content curation tools I know I am in for some disappointment.

Most of these lists just pick up names from other lists without even bothering to check, test or verify what these tools actually do, whether they are still available. Unfortunately the rush to put out "curated" list of tools and services has created more misinformation than useful lists.

But if you, like me, are on the lookout for new and effective tools to curate your own content or the one of your customers, I have created a comprehensive map of all the curation tools available online and I keep it fresh and updated almost on a daily basis.

The map presently lists over 250 content curation tools which you can navigate much more easily than it was possible on my earlier versions of this map.

On the right side of the map you will find all of the news and content curation tools available online today. On the left side, you can find bookmarking, link lists builders, clippers and lots of tools to operate with RSS feeds (which are still at the heart of a curator's job).

Full map: http://bit.ly/ContentCurationUniverse

Share it.

Comment animer un compte Pinterest avec du texte ? | Misc Techno | Scoop.it
