The Fuji X-T1 with Fujinon lenses | Ian MacDonald

The Fuji X-T1 with Fujinon lenses | Ian MacDonald | Mirrorless Cameras | Scoop.it

My gateway into the Fuji X series was through the Fuji X100s.  Like many, I had initially started out looking for a small camera for those times where I didn’t want to carry the backpack full of DSLR gear.  Not for “real shoots”, but for those times where I wanted to have a small camera with me that still delivered quality images. The X100s sold me on the Fuji sensor and Fuji’s image processing.  I loved it, and soon developed a passion for street photography.  I travelled often with it as my only camera and developed a small “take anywhere” travel kit around it. It wasn’t long after I purchased the Fuji X100s that I started looking at the possibility of replacing my Nikon gear completely with Fuji.  As much as I loved the X100s, I knew I would need an interchangeable lens system for the portrait and landscape work I love to do.  The timing ended up being perfect as Fuji released what is arguably their flagship model:  The Fuji X-T1......

A day with... Fuji X-T1 and Fujinon 10-24mm f/4 | Sebastian Lee | Mirrorless Cameras | Scoop.it

All of us have certain joys in life.  I'm a fan of the coveted coke float....sure it's a ton of pointless calories...but man oh man...it's so delicious...especially following something spicy.  Always brings a smile to my face.  When Fuji first announced the X-T1 last month just as I was reviewing the X-E2, yet another smile slowly crept up.  I was pretty impressed with the X-E2 and have simply been floored with the products Fuji has been putting out over the past year.  The X-series cameras have changed digital photography.  Their products aren't revolutionary from a technology sense.  Sure the cameras are pretty small and packed with WiFi's, knobs and top of the line auto-focus systems.  Great glass, stunning build quality, and all the features you expect these days in a camera.  All from a company that not only has a long history in the realm of photography, but while on a massive upswing the past year is making a lot of people very happy.  And I for one have not been disappointed.  And most importantly, Fuji has become very relevant in digital photography......

Last night I made my way up to the big smoke to listen to a couple of photographers I have always admired chat about a brand that like me they are passionate about, Fujifilm. There is this strange thing that happens when I use my X100S, I immediately feel more creative, it sees light the way I do and really works for me.

Monochrome collection | Light Priority

Monochrome collection | Light Priority | Mirrorless Cameras | Scoop.it

I’m quite fond of shooting black and white – it has a certain charm and character that can turn a scene that looks mundane in colour into something with impact. Although I use my camera in RAW mode, I often use the black and white film simulation so what I see on the screen and in the viewfinder is not in colour. Since I’m shooting RAW I can always process the image in colour later on, but limiting things to black and white at the point of capture helps focus my attention. It makes you acutely aware of how the light falls on your subject, the shadows that it forms and the contrast between them. Here’s a selection of some of my favourite black and white shots taken over the past few years, I hope you enjoy them. The featured image above was taken in York and shows one of the historic shops that now serves as a café.......

Traveling with an X100S

Traveling with an X100S | Mirrorless Cameras | Scoop.it

I've never done a review of the X100S. Even though I've been meaning to
during the year or so that I have had it. So let's go ahead and call this a
review, even though it is not really about the buttons and dials on the
camera, as there is a lot of those out there already.
We have just returned from a trip to the Netherlands and Belgium for a bit  of travel, so I thought I would put the emphasis on how great this camera was for carrying around. I hope I can put in words how it really saved my shoulders and arms.

Postcards from Lalibela | David duChemin

Postcards from Lalibela | David duChemin | Mirrorless Cameras | Scoop.it

A week ago a group of us landed in Lalibela, Ethiopia about the same time as thousands of orthodox pilgrims were arriving from all over the country. We spent the last week in this high dusty town, walking among the centuries-old churches, all carved from the red rock on which this town sits, and waiting for orthodox Christmas. Unique in ways I’ve not encountered anywhere else in Africa, Ethiopia is hard to describe to those who haven’t been, and Lalibela is even more so. After being exiled to Jerusalem by his brother the king, Prince Lalibela eventually returned to his home with the intention of building an African Jerusalem, and this town – some 2600 meters in the mountainous north of Ethiopia – was where he built it.  Churches here, all intricately carved from the rock, and joined by tunnels and bridges, are alive; they throng with life, the priests and pilgrims moving to the rhythms of a faith practiced here for many centuries. The walls are hung with tapestries, the floors covered in carpets, all of it lit from high carved windows and the odd bare bulb, placed wherever the rock allows. It’s crowded and dusty and full of mystery and humanity.....

Review : Fujifilm X-E2 and XF Fujinon 23mm f/1.4 R Lens | David Cleland | Mirrorless Cameras | Scoop.it

My first outing with the X-E2 involved packing the camera with the 23mm f/1.4 lens, the 14mm and 35mm lenses into my Millican ‘Christopher’ bag and heading for the stunning County Down coastline.

The Fujifilm X-E2

The X-E2 offers something special. I am constantly amazed by each generation of Fujifilm X camera. The X100 remains an amazing camera yet the X100s still manages to add considerable value. The X-E2 works on the same principle, the X-E1 remains a trustworthy and reliable workhorse yet the X-E2 adds a little extra magic. I packed the X-E2, the 23mm and the Fujinon 14mm wide angle lens.....

Solving for X: Algebra of the Fujifilm X-System | Mirrorless Cameras | Scoop.it

“ Another day, another camera system... Remember: all my reviews are user experience based. I don't shoot test charts or do measurements. I take photos and make prints. My goal is to have my work hanging in peoples homes and businesses – not to be a "professional" reviewer or photographer. In this blog post I'm going to stop short of a full review of a specific camera or lens – I am instead reviewing the system itself and explaining why I think it's worth a look and why I shoot it. ”

XE2 In the Street

XE2 In the Street | Mirrorless Cameras | Scoop.it

What can I say! Street shooting and Fuji go hand in hand, I lost my confidence shooting street years ago when digital first came out, everyone looks at you when you have a DSLR and even worse when you have a D3s hanging round your neck or any pro body DSLR ! I used to get asked quite a lot was I press and what was I shooting! I just got fed up with trying to explain myself. I like to shoot up close with short and wide primes, but in the end to get a more candid shot with a DSLR I had to start shooting with 300mm Prime or 70-200mm Zoom and it was driving me mad.

The Rig: Kevin Mullins | Jorge Ledesma

The Rig: Kevin Mullins | Jorge Ledesma | Mirrorless Cameras | Scoop.it

My name is Kevin Mullins. I’m a professional documentary style wedding photographer based in Wiltshire, England. I’m originally from Wales, but settled in our little market town around seven years ago with my wife. We now have two little people running around, and a Whippet, that seems to spend all its time asleep and avoiding running around. I’ve been a full time wedding photographer for five years or so and have always been an avid fan, and shooter, of candid images. Images that are not staged, or contrived, not girp-and-grin or set up portraits. Rather, I want my images to tell a story – each and every one of them to have a narrative within the bigger picture of the wedding day. Outside of running my business, and my family, I’m a huge Rugby Union fan (I’m Welsh by birth) and spend as much time watching and playing as I can muster. I also like great cigars and good Scotch Whiskey.....
