Today's incredible Minecraft builds come from the rich world of Harry Potter. Hogsmeade, Azkaban and of course plenty of amazing renditions of Hogwarts itself have all been faithfully recreated by Harry Potter superfans.
I am quickly finding out that teaching language alongside of Minecraft is a formidable task, especially given the fact that students were not introduced to the game until halfway through the quarter, thus, increasing the learning curve significantly. Despite this, the project has been moving forward, and student essay show engagement in the game and in the target language.
There is a long history of understanding games as sort of leisure activities, as a kind of waste of time. And that when we see kids playing games that maybe our first reaction is to say, “Oh well they’re just playing, they’re just kind of wasting time.”
It was too deep to drive my car down the drive and into the water(road). So I rang up and told work that I wouldn't be in until later in the day, and of course I then had to write down what work my classes could do in my absence.
