Mindfulness, as a meditation practice, is not about obesessing with data. The Ethical Nag makes a great point of finding the tipping point between observing life and living life. Turn off the technology, take some deep breaths and experience the present moment without any need of data for proof.

 

With a well discipline practice, when you plug back in, the results can be amazing.

No need to add.. Read Annette Schmeling's insight. For those that have read Melanie's blog post, it is a good reminder and also a good piece to share with others inquiring about Mindfulness.


Thomas Aquinas said when asked how do you explain the world. Explain the world in terms of God.  The follow on question flowed quite naturally: How do  you explain God.  He said: You explain God in terms of complete and absolute Mystery.


Lee Thayer's next book in process is on Mental Hygiene. All that we address and talk about are human explanations and interpretations. What we speak of as reality is something that we will never know as it is always seen through the eyes of the beholder.


We say: I learn from my experience. What we mean is: I learn from my interpretations of my experience. I realize I may have the same  near death experience as you and our interpretations of that experience may be polar opposite.

Aetna, Merck, General Mills--the list goes on--all are exploring how meditation can help their leaders and employees agilely thrive in today's fast-paced business environment. And the benefits are widely publicized: sustained attention span, improved multi-tasking abilities, strengthened immune system, increased emotional intelligence, improved listening skills...And there is science behind such claims.

Mindfulness training is about your life. It isn't about the time you meditate on a cushion or chair. It is about learning to be awake for each moment of your life. So bringing your training into the moments in the day is a necessary requirement.

"Purposeful Pauses," or what Karen Sothers describes as "mini-moments," remembering to stop, breath & take in the good over time will retrain the brain to focus on the positive insted of jumping to the negative. 

 

The goal is to have more conscious choices. Unless you have intentionally trained your mind to give at least equal attention to what is working, wonderful and satisfying, you probably tend to focus first on what is negative.

In today’s fast-paced world, we hardly have a spare minute to do the things for ourselves that help us stay energized and focused. By focusing for a few minutes a couple of times a day to intentionally breathe can completely change our disposition. A study out of the University of Pennsylvania shows that carving out a mere 12 minutes a day to do just that—intentionally breathe—can go a long way toward improving your mood. In addition, meditating can help you get better quality sleep, show more kindness towards others, and reduce inflammation.

 

Here are a series of mini-meditations you can call on throughout your day when you’re feeling like you are coming apart at the seams and need to find your center.

Radiating a convincing presence, like Andy has in this video, communicates having deep and passionate convictions. Real presence is not a superficial facade or manipulated image; it is an expression of his authentic being. How can you help but notice his assuredness and his character. 

 

Mindfulness or contemplation over time will reveal the true character of a person.
