Love this quote from Google: "We find that people often take interest in our mindfulness programs because they not only want to be able to develop the skills to focus and pay attention to the task at hand, but they also want to learn how to clear their minds so they can be more innovative and creative thinkers. Mindfulness is a powerful tool to develop a stronger capability to handle ambiguity and complexity..."  A good set of ideas about workplace mindfulness, but missing the idea of support from top executives - a key success factor, in my opinion.

A chorus of criticism has grown alongside mindfulness at work programs. But do they throw the mindful baby out with the corporate bath water?

Check out this very balanced look at some of the criticisms of workplace mindfulness programs. As I've said elsewhere in this channel, despite all of the criticisms, the increases I've seen in non-reactivity, presence, and self-awareness as a result of my mindfulness training completely eclipse the concerns about risks. I don't deny the risks are there, but so far the benefits outweigh the costs and risks by a wide margin.

I don't recommend going on a silent retreat without first getting a taste of mindfulness practice, because it can be a profoundly disorienting experience. That being said, this article does a great job of describing what it's like to go on retreat. I like her style of writing.

A new study found that subjects who practiced mindfulness meditation had a 44 percent greater pain relief than placebo. Past research indicated that opioid morphine decreased physical pain by 22 percent - outperformed by meditation in this study.

The author highlights the fact that the accessibility and cost of functional MRI's have reached a point where it's now possible to conduct this kind of research, and science can jump intelligently into the investigation of this 2,500 year old practice. What practitioners like me have known from experience, science can now demonstrate through research.
