The true task of spiritual life is not found in faraway places or unusual states of consciousness; it is here in the present. It asks of us a welcoming spirit to greet all that life presents to us with a wise, respectful and kindly heart.

Mindfulness Requires Practice and Purpose

Misconceptions surround the practice of mindfulness, which is part meditation and part a greater awareness of the things around you.
The BioSync Team's insight:

Besides a formal meditation practice the greater idea here is to “take yourself out of autopilot” and really absorb "purposeful pauses" − meaning feel that breeze, taste the nuances of your tea/coffee/wine, smell the freshly mowed grass, etc....

Sacred Moments: Influencing our Stress and Well-Being | Mindful

Sacred Moments: Influencing our Stress and Well-Being | Mindful | Mindfulness and Meditation | Scoop.it

Sacred moments are defined as day-to-day personal moments that are imbued with sacred qualities, which seem like time-outs from daily busy-ness, where a sense of stillness arises or occurs and where concerns of the every day just seem to evaporate.

The BioSync Team's insight:

The great lesson from the true mystics, from the Zen Monks, and now also from the Humanistic and Transpersonal psychologists—that the sacred is in the ordinary, that it is to be found in one's daily life, in one's neighbors, friends, and family, in one's back yard, and that travel may be a flight from confronting the sacred—this lesson can be easily lost. To be looking elsewhere for miracles is to me a sure sign of ignorance that everything is miraculous.
—Abraham Maslow

Why Meditate?

Why Meditate? | Mindfulness and Meditation | Scoop.it

When you meditate, you go beyond the mind’s noisy chatter into an entirely different place: the silence of a mind that is not imprisoned by the past or the future. This is important because silence is the birthplace of happiness. Silence is where we get our bursts of inspiration, our tender feelings of compassion and empathy, and our sense of love.

Does Mindfulness Stress You Out?

Does Mindfulness Stress You Out? | Mindfulness and Meditation | Scoop.it

Sounds like a paradox, right? By all common logic, we shouldn't be stressed out if we're practicing mindfulness or meditation. We hear over and over in the news how those practices are supposed to help us relax. Yet I hear over and over from clients that the whole concept of mindfulness provokes anxiety. It's time to strip down the concept of mindfulness and make it accessible to everyone.

The benefits of meditation - from the MIT News Office

The benefits of meditation - from the MIT News Office | Mindfulness and Meditation | Scoop.it

MIT and Harvard neuroscientists explain why the practice of meditation helps tune out distractions and relieve pain. In a study published in the journal Brain Research Bulletin, researchers found that people trained to meditate over an eight-week period were better able to control a specific type of brain waves called alpha rhythms.

The subjects trained in meditation also reported that they felt less stress than the non-meditators. “Their objective condition might not have changed, but they’re not as reactive to their situation,” Kerr says. “They’re more able to handle stress.”
